Re: Switch from stora to readynas duo

The disk formats of the Stora and the Duo are not compatible. If you are able to access the ReadyNAS, than the disks have been formatted by the ReadyNAS and your data is gone. However if the Raid volume has not been created or you are having issues with accessing the ReadyNAS your data may still be intact. You will need another Stora in order to read your data.

Re: Switch from stora to readynas duo

Thanks for the reply! But what is the point of raid. I mean in say five years my new cabinet breaks then i'm left with two working discs with data that I can't recover if I can't get a readynas duo to read my discs.

Re: Switch from stora to readynas duo

You can recover data from a Duo using a Linux machine. See the "Mounting Sparc..." guide at http://home.bott.ca

You can ask on the Stora forums if you can use a standard Linux machine to recover your data. The process would be different for the Stora.

RAID provides redundancy not backup. If a disk fails in a 2-disk X-RAID or RAID-1 volume then data remains intact.
