im about to do the upgrade on my RNDP6000 (12TB) 4.2x to OS 6 (just waiting on my 12TB backup being done first....taking days)
I see that Plex addon can be installed but when i goto Plex download page i have two possible options...
1. Netgear
2. Linux
if i choose to download for Netgear Nas, i only get a x64 version (but nas is x86 right ?)
if i choose Linux i do see a X86 version.... is this the one i should choose (Linux - Ubuntu or Fedora , which ??) and not (Netgear) as one would expect to choose ?

since the drives are empty anyway why do i need to wait 26 hours on a sync ?
A RAID array is a virtual disk that provides raw block storage. Every block on the physical disks needs to be either read or written when the array is created - that is needed to construct the parity blocks that provide RAID redundancy. The fact that the file system "on top" of the virtual disk is empty doesn't matter - the process is the same whether the file system is full or empty.
There's no way around this step. You can start to put data onto the NAS while it is resyncing, but I suggest waiting until it's done. The NAS performance is slower during the resync, and copying files onto the NAS now will also make the resync take longer.

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
Choose Netgear(not Linux) at https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ and then select the 64-bit Intel package. The download will end with .amd64.deb.

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
Welcome to the Community!
You can select NETGEAR X86 refers to the family of processors (Intel,AMD) while x64 is the current computer architecture which is 64-Bit. Most Intel and AMD processors now supports 32 and 64 bit
The NETGEAR Package for 64 Bit is .deb which is an extension for Linux Debian which ReadyNAS uses.

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
one other question I would like to ask if i may about the 4.2 to OS 6 upgrade...
i see a couple of variations in the tutorials for the process.
One method says to import PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin via the addons page and then R4toR6_6.9.5.bin via the firmware update page...?
and the other says,
To add both files (PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin & R4toR6_6.9.5.bin) via the firmware update page ?
which method is the corrrect one ...?
many thanks

Plex originally distributed the server through Netgear, but later on they decided to distribute it directly.
You install the app you downloaded using the upload control on the apps page of the web admin ui. After you install it, it will show up in the admin web ui (complete with toggle switch).

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
ok so its 100% this method
import PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin via the addons page
DO NOT REBOOT
and then import R4toR6_6.9.5.bin via the firmware update page...?
correct ?
is says different here (ie. to use method 2 - both files imported via firmware update page ?)
and here

I suspect both methods would work, but the more recent posts on this say to install the prep bin as an add on.

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
Thanks
to be sure am I using the correct PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin file ... ?
i see a couple of variations of this floating about. one named
PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin
and the other
PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86-addon.bin
should i assume these are both the same thing just named differently ?
I just want to be sure I have the correct file to install as an addon and not maybe an earlier version that is uploaded only via the firmware update method ?
i.e. i have downloaded the files posted in this thread...
thanks

Those are the correct links.
If you also want to update your bios, do that before you do the conversion. You'd install this binary as an add-on: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
thank everyone for the great help.
i have downloaded all the files i believe I need to get going ...
PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86
does it matter if i just use the latest firmware from Netgear to upgrade , ReadyNASOS-6.10.2-x86_64.bin
or must i use the R4toR6_latest.bin file (no idea what version it is though) ... ?
thanks

Use the links I posted in https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS-in-Business/ReadyNAS-R4toR6-download-links/m-p/... .
Then update the NAS firmware after the conversion (and after your RAID array is rebuilt). It should give you a pop-up offering to update the firmware. If it doesn't, then use the check for updates link on the system->overview page of the OS 6 web ui.
Trying to directly install the current OS 6 firmware won't work. _latest.bin isn't available for download anymore.

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
Thanks StephenB
i have just completed the first stage of the OS upgrade.
i see the volumes are "re-syncing" which will take 26 hours???
is it necesssary to wait on this or is there a way to cancel and start a new format or something ?
since the drives are empty anyway why do i need to wait 26 hours on a sync ?
just trying to save some time ....
thanks

Re: Ultra 6 OS Upgrade from 4.2.30 to OS 6 then adding PLEX addon, which .deb file to download ?
One additional advantage you'll be glad of if needed: If your NAS does stop functioning, or you just want to upgrade to a faster one, you can move the drives directly to a current OS6 NAS. No need for the temporary mount method needed to move 4.2.x drives to an OS6 machine.

The settings should be the same.
But the information I am seeing says that you should be using port 465. http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44917/~/what-are-the-settings-for-outgoing-and-incomi...
