Understanding X-RAID

Hi,

I have a NV+ v1.
It is running RAIDiator 4.1.12 [1.00a043]
It is currently configured with X-RAID on 2 disks (2TB+2TB).

When I bought I made some rather stupid moves, which forced me to start all over, so I hope someone can predict the outcome of these actions:

What happens if I add a third disk that is only 500GB (2TB + 2TB + 500GB) ???

What happens if I later on removes the 500GB and add a 2TB (2TB+2TB+2TB) ???

What happens if I later on add a 2TB (2TB+2TB+2TB+2TB) ???

Best regards
Jan

Re: Understanding X-RAID

It can't add a 500 GB disk to your existing array. It might wipe it, but it shouldn't add it.

Adding a third 2 TB drive should double the volume size to ~4 TB.

Adding a fourth 2 TB drive should triple the current volume size to ~ 6 TB (~5.4 TiB).

In general, you should have a backup strategy - and an up-to-date backup when replacing drives or expanding the array.

Okay, I will put the 500 Gb away.
Thanks a lot.
