Very wierd problem

Hi guys I have a ultra 6, had it for about a month working fine but some times when I want to copy a file over to the Readynas from my windows 7 Mashine say a 4GB file windows copy bar will show but it will just stall and bring up an error message saying "X network share is not available" this is going to sound strange but when this happens I can hear the disks in the Readynas working away and when the nosie stops i can copy the file over to the without any problem :-& it's like it's too busy to take any requests but nothing is accessing it. This is an ongoing problem

Any help would be great thanks

Re: Very wierd problem

Sounds like the disks were spun down. New request will cause them to spin up (making lots of noise), then they would be happy to process the copy. But the initial spin up may take 10-15 seconds, causing Windows to time out with an error.

An easy test... Check in FrontView under System>Power if you have disk spin-down enabled. If so, try raising the time, or disabling it, and see if your copy issue goes away.

Re: Very wierd problem

Hi I've checked the spin down option in power settings and it wasn't enabled and I've just tried it again and I can copy a 4kb file fine and if windows need to calculate how long a file is going to take say 4GB or 10GB etc it just stalls and I can hear the Readynas disks busy. Any ideas :?
