Volume Size Discrepancy in Finder and Frontview
Hi guys,
I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issue to mine, and has resolved it.
I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 running RAIDiator 4.2.19. I recently expanded my X-Raid2 (single redundancy) volume by adding 4 x 3TB Hitachi HDD's (off the HCL). I previously had 4 x 2TB Seagate drives inserted. I followed the proper instructions and the expansion went as expected. However, the volume size in Frontview is different to the volume size that my Finder (in Mac OS X 10.7.1) indicates. In Frontview my volume size is approx 8.33TB, whereas in Finder it is 8.95TB (this is around 0.6TB different)! The Frontview volume size (8.33TB) is closer to what I would have expected (3 X 2790GB, and 2790GB redundant).
I turned off the AFP service, restarted the Ultra 4 and restarted my Macs, and also restarted the AFP service - nothing changed unfortunately. I also have a Mac running OS X 10.6 that shows the same discrepancy in the volume size.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Volume Size Discrepancy in Finder and Frontview
Since Leopard, Apple uses the 'decimal' measure as used by HDD manufacturers where 1TB = 1000GB, whereas your NAS uses the more traditional 1TB = 1024GB.

Thanks sphardy. Just found that answer also.

According to the article, after the change in SL a drive with exactly 100GB appears as approx 107.37GB. So, I should expect a difference of approx 7.37GB per 100GB. That means in 8331GB (my volume size in Frontview) I would expect the difference to be approx 614GB (8331/100 x 7.37). So, 8331GB + 614GB = 8.945TB (pretty much my volume size as shown in Lion).
Well, that's it then. The volume discrepancy was a little concerning, but is understandable now.
