WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\READYNAS

Suddenly I am unable to access my ReadyNAS from Windows Explorer. In the folder list (on the left of the Windows Explorer window), under "Network" it shows all the computers on my home network and also NASNAME (the name of my ReadyNAS). However, if I double click on NASNAME I get the message:

"Network Error.  Windows cannot access \\NASNAME.  Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network)."

All was working perfectly well until a couple of days ago.  All the other computers can still access the NAS without a problem.

I had a similar issue some while ago and got round it by renaming the NAS "NEWNAME" but that is not a long term solution.  The only change I am aware of in the last couple of days is a Windows 10 update on the affected computer.

Can anyone suggest how I can regain access to the NAS (other than renaming it) and, if possible, how to stop this issue happening again?

Model RN104 currently with two 4TB disks, running Firmware 6.5.1. Computer is running Windows10 Home (Version 1607 OS Build 14393.222).

Re: WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\READYNAS

Try going into the Windows Credential Manager.  Delete any credentials that are already there for NASNAME.  Then create one, using a user account on the NAS and the password for that account.  You can use admin.

Re: WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\READYNAS

It would also be advisable to update the firmware. ReadyNAS OS 6.6.0 is now available!

Re: WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\READYNAS

That worked - thank you!  I just hope this doesn't happen too often: it took me a couple of days to spot that I had lost access and, in the meantime, my computer wasn't being backed up.

And I shall now update the firmware.

Re: WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\READYNAS

The credentials should be persistent.  If you also access the NAS by IP address, then you'll want to (a) reserve the address in the router and (b) add a credential for the IP address too.

Re: WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\READYNAS

I have only been accessing by name.  I'm glad the credentials should be persistent: I hope they will be in the future!

Thanks again for your help.
