added 3x8tb but only showing 7.27tb of data

Hi,

 

I just finished building a new nas setup and intially started with 2x8tb drives.  I undestand that in Raid 1 the drives are mirrored so I get a 1:1 copy and have only 8tb visible (7.3tb after formatting etc).  But after adding a third drive and moving to Raid5, I am still only seeing the initial 8tb and not 16tb.  Is this correct?

 

The drives are currently resyncing after adding the third - will it add the additional 8tb after it finishes and am i being impatient or have I done something wrong?

    Yes.  Wait for the resync to complete, you should see the full array size then.

     

    Note it is displayed in TiB, not TB, so it should be shown as ~14.5 TiB.

    Yes.  Wait for the resync to complete, you should see the full array size then.

      Thank you.  Ill report back in around 45hrs.

       

      Also. my readynas dashboard reports it as TB so I was just quoting that - I didnt know about TiB so ill be doing some reading! thank you!

        No. The label is TB (1000*1000*1000*1000 bytes) but it actually is TiB (1024*1024*1024*1024 bytes).

         

        8 TB is actually 7.27 TiB.  Google will convert the units (try typing "8 TB in TiB").
