kernel panic
Who is this Colonel Panic that is being summoned by my NV+ ?
My NV+ has 4x ST3750640NS
I had a report that drive 4 had failed.
i put in a 1TB Seagate ST3100340AS that had been previously used in another NV+
On insertion a the disk clacked 10 times, sounding like head load or reset.
But the NV+ failed to rebuild.
So I pulled the drive and installed a 2TB Hitachi HUA7222020 that's on the compatibility list
And the disk add is rejected.
If I power off and on without a disk in drive 4, the Health screen shows Disk 4 Unknown 698GB
But When I add the 2TB that doesn't change.
If I power on with any disk in drive 4 - I get Kernel Panic.
Is there a reset I can do, to stop the rebuild it thinks it's doing?
Then start the rebuild from scratch?

Re: kernel panic
Do you have a backup? If not, make one now.
What firmware is running on the NV+?
Have you tested the disks you are attempting to insert with vendor tools?
Also I would attach the drive you plan to insert, to a PC, and delete any partitions that may be on it. This is probably the reason the 1 tb drive was not added, although the noises you described are a bit of a concern.
Once you have tested one of the drives and deleted any partitions on it, power on the nas, then insert the drive.

Re: kernel panic
This is NAS3, which is the backup to NAS2, which is the backup to NAS1.
NV+ is running RAIDiator 4.1.10
Can I install 4.1.14 while it's in this state ?

Re: kernel panic
I wouldn't update the firmware until you have sorted out the volume.
Did you test the disks and delete any partitions before trying to hot add a disk into slot 4 again.
Of course you have one other alternative if you have no success with this, and that is to put all the disks in that you want and factory default the unit.
