Re: maximum TB for the OS ??? and why only this

Hello iceerik,

That is the normal volume capacity one would get out of 4x6TB disks on a RAID 5. If you want to have more capacity then you might as well switch to FlexRAID and use a different RAID level, please see RAID calculator to check other RAID levels' volume capacity.

Here are 2 charts also that you might want to see:

Please note that switching to another RAID may result to data loss, so please back up your data, as we always strongly recommend to do so.

I have the same volume configuration as you have in my 526X.

To add to what JennC said:

The NAS shows volume size in TiB, not TB.  1 TiB = 1024*1024*1024*1024 bytes, 1 TB = 1000*1000*1000*1000 bytes.

The capacity rule for RAID-5 (and XRAID2 single redundancy) is "sum the disks and subtract the largest".

In our case that works out to 18 TB.  18 TB is the same as 16.37 TiB.  There is a bit of overhead (The OS partition, etc), so 16.36 TiB is in fact the right size.

6.4.1 is quite old firmware now. You may wish to consider updating to newer firmware.
