new fan low speeds
I've changed my stock fan to Nuctua NF-A8 fan. For some reason it runs stable at 727 RPM and it doesn't go up when I put some load on the CPU.
And is it correct that the System fan is not controllable on a RNDP600E so any change in fan setting (e.g. cool or balanced) will have no impact on the fans whatsoever?
Is there a way to change the fan speed settings that OS6 uses without installing FANCONTROL?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Re: new fan low speeds
I did try the suggested override command in various posts
echo 1500 > /etc/frontview/min_fan_speed_override
and rebooted the system
however this seems to have no effect
I checked the pwm2 file in /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/device the value says 75. I've tried to do a manual echo into the the file to get the value to 255 however the command never changes the value?
echo "255" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/device/pwm2
There is no error message either when I execute the command.
In the /etc/frontview/sensors folder I can see the following config files but non seem to be for the ReadyNAS Pro
NV6.conf RN202.conf RN312.conf RN3220.conf RN526.conf RR4312X.conf
RD4100.conf RN204.conf RN3130.conf RN4200.conf RN528X.conf ULTRA2.conf
RD5200.conf RN2100V2.conf RN314.conf RN4220.conf RN628X.conf ULTRA4.conf
RN102.conf RN2120.conf RN316.conf RN516.conf RN716.conf ULTRA6.conf
RN104.conf RN25.conf RN3200.conf RN524X.conf RR3312.conf
Looking forward to more suggestions and help

Re: new fan low speeds
I did not know that you could change fans and tune up the thing. Too bad that it can't be fixed thru the web page.
Still some work to do!

Re: new fan low speeds
The systen starts to heat up and I cannot get the system fan to run maximum. I really could use some help here as I am not even stressing the system at the moment

What room temp do you have?
21 degrees Celcius
However the NAS run in a closset with an big vent opening
The temp is was achived by putting some stress on the system with various Plex streams

Re: new fan low speeds
You can put it out off the closet to see if temp goes down a little bit!
Then if it solves the issue try to drill some extra holes in the closet, and put an inlet and one outlet with fans!

Sounds like the right next step to me too. If the original fan still works, you could also try putting it back.

Re: new fan low speeds
People should not put electronics such as NAS or PC in closets, appart of switches or routers and modems.
They need to breath. Or there is AC inside the closet!!

Re: new fan low speeds
I have seen there are 3 variants of the Nuctua NF-A8 fan
Nuctua NF-A8 PWM with automatic speed control
Nuctua NF-A8 FLX provides 2000/1650/1200rpm speed settings via the supplied Low-Noise Adaptors
Nuctua NF-A8 ULN provides super-slow 1400/1100rpm speed settings
Which are you using?
What speeds are shown with the original fan re-installed?

It won't be currently as @JS78 has just upgraded the CPU

Re: new fan low speeds
The CPU must be overloaded, you should put a more efficient heatsink!

I have the NF-A8 PWM which has the most air movement and low noise
I have the NF-S12A PWM which has relative low RPMs but het air movement

Well for sure I can do with a better heatsink, however which one will fit the space available?
On the otherhand my temps of my old CPU and fan have also been quite high between the 55C - 65C as far as I can recall and the disk temps have been around 45C - 50C

Re: new fan low speeds
For a CPU it is normal, Gamer PC CPU can end up with 90C!!!
