rn42200 fails to boot

I have a RN42200 with two brand new WD2002003FZEX drives installed. I am unable to gett them to initialize./fomat and I've tried to up date the OS too. In both cases the LED screen goes from Netgear Storage Welcome to a blank screen with a line in the upper left hand corner. I think  I have a dead box but thought I would post here to see if I've over looked anything. Thanks for your time.

Re: rn42200 fails to boot

Start by removing the disks and powering up.  Then see if RAIDar sees the NAS with a "no disks status".https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar

Also, connect the disks to a windows PC (either with SATA or with a USB adapter/dock) and try testing them with Western Digital's Lifeguard utility.

If you are the original purchaser, you have 90 day phone support (via my.netgear.com).  Use that if you have it.

Thank you for the reply. Raidar doesnt see it with both disks removed.

Re: rn42200 fails to boot

Hi mgustus,

If RAIDar still cannot detect the NAS even if there are no disks inserted, there is a possibility that the chassis is faulty. If you are the original purchaser, you may contact our support for the warranty replacement.

I agree that contacting support is the next step - this is almost certainly a failed chassis.

Re: rn42200 fails to boot

The replacement chassis has now failed. After running for several months, it fails to come up after a reboot. The menu just flashes. I pulled the disks with the same issue. I tried to recover the OS using a recovery USB and can not get it to boot. Looking in the back through the fins, I dont see any lights. I think its dead.

I guess you'll need to contact support again.  Having a second chassis fail is unusual, I haven't seen that posted here before.

Not all USB keys are compatible, but it does sound like you may have encountered another hardware failure. This is unusual.

Thanks for the reply. I used the same USB before. Yeah seems odd. Murphy has been hanging out on this NAS since I got it.
