supersede backups

I have a customer who needs their NAS to supersede the previous backup. Is this possible.  The NAS fills up very quickly so I need a new backup to overwrite the old one.

Any ideas on if this is possible.

Thanks.

Re: supersede backups

Using the RSync protocol, there is the option to delete on the destination files that have been deleted on the source.

Re: supersede backups

The backup is of another NAS so would with mean the files of the previous backup would be removed and the files on the other NAS that is getting backed up remain?

Re: supersede backups

It means that any files that are no longer on the source NAS will be deleted on the destination.

New or changed files are of course backed up.

Files that are unchanged remain on the destination, and are not backed up again (assuming the usual incremental backup option is used).

Re: supersede backups

That's great. I'll give that a try and mark this as Resolved if it's all good. Thanks.
