Hello, I have the following UPS: APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 550 (BR550GI) I have connected it to the following Netgear: Netgear ReadyNAS Pro 2 RNDP2000 2 Bay I have connected the RJ45 to USB cable from the UPS to the USB on the back of the ReadyNAS. The ReadyNAS is plugged into the master battery socket on the UPS and is the only device connected to the UPS. If I turn the power off, the battery kicks in and power remains - ie. the ReadyNAS stays on. HOWEVER - the ReadyNAS is not detecting the UPS at all - it shows up in front view on the Health Page as follows: UPS 1 Not present NA Almost as if the device isn't plugged in. RAIDar also does not detected the UPS. Any Advice Please????? ThanksAPC Back-UPS XS 1300 LCD with ReadyNAS Pro 2
I originally tried connecting my APC Back-UPS XS 1300 LCD to my ReadyNAS Pro 2, but the cable I was using was a male USB to female USB with a USB to RJ-45 adapter connected to it. My understanding now is that the RJ-45 to USB adapter is essentially useless because RJ-45 actually has different electrical requirements or something, and I suspect this is the reason why my UPS never showed up as connected or functioning in ReadyNAS Frontview. Can anyone confirm that the APC Back-UPS XS 1300 LCD is compatible with the ReadyNAS Pro 2? And can anyone recommend a place that I can buy a proper USB to RJ-45 data cable to connect my UPS to my NAS? Private messages are fine if links are not allowed. Thank you for your time everyone. I appreciate it.is 585 VA too small?
I just picked up a CP1500LCD with the intention to use it for the readynas but second thought, I only need the NAS to safely shutdown when the power goes out and come back on when power is restored. I have an older CP585LCD that I'm using for other equipment but since the readynas is going to be the only thing attached to which ever UPS. I'm thinking move the 585 in the closet with the readynas and use the 1500 for my other equipment where I have multiple devices connected to.APC ES650 UPS unrealistic duration estimate
I replaced APC ES550 with a new APC ES650 UPS for a ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition running RAIDiator 4.2.19. The estimate of remaining battery life for ES550 was reasonably accurate. However the estimate of remaining battery life for ES650 appears unrealistic. Have others seen this problem? Old UPS: APC Back-UPS ES 550, Battery charge: 100%, 17 minutes New UPS: APC Back-UPS ES 650G1, Battery charge: 100%, 705 minutesAPC Smart-UPS Model RT 1000
I have just bought 4 new batteries for my RT 1000 UPS, and everything is plugged into and working fine, the back of the RT1000 has a DB9 serial port, with pin outs as per this url http://pinouts.ru/UPS/apc_smart_cable_pinout.shtml The ReadyNAS model I have is an old Sparc 1U rack model, the ReadyNAS 1000S with a USB connector on the back for UPS I have bought the correct APC part number cable ( DB9 to USB ) http://www.icecat.co.uk/us/p/apc/nbac0226/usb-cables-0879703000651-netbotz-usb-to-serial-rs-232-db-9-adapter-cable-6ft-18m-446281.html I have connected it up, and am worried that the ReadyNAS ( using Debian Linux ) is not detecting that the USB port is alive and connected to the Smart-UPS, which if it was would normally show up as a green light on the RAIDar dashboard I know the USB port works because I have used it before for recovery using Bott's handy guide http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=159 What may be a simple thing is driving me nuts, could it be that there is a specific USB driver I need to get this working, would I need to know the USB chip inside the cable to know who provides the specific Linux (Debian) driver that I may need ? I spotted this - CP2101 kernel module This is the Linux driver for CP2101, CP2102 and CP2103 based USB to serial bridges. The driver is 100% open source Current Release: CP2101-readynas-1.0.1 - but tried to install it without success, perhaps there is a guide or something that someone could point me in the direction of as I am total beginner with Debian Linux http://readynasfreeware.org/projects/nas-cp2101 many thanks to anyone in advance who could help me get up and running, cheers, PeterReadyNAS NV+ in standby draining Back-UPS ES550
Hi all, I suspect I'm going to be disappointed here but I have to ask, stranger things have happened.... I have two ReadyNAS NV+ units, one for media sharing and one exclusively for backup of other devices (eg. Windows PC's). The media box is set to auto power on each morning and shutdown at midnight, the backup NV+ only comes up at the times that backups are scheduled. As you can see I'm trying to save power and it has worked perfectly, I love my ReadyNAS boxes. Recently I bought an APC Back-UPS ES550 and I'm having a problem that I haven't been able to find a solution for. I have two situations that cause power outages and hence the need for the UPS - 1. Where we live we occasionally have brief power failures, often 5 seconds or less during which the local supply is auto switched to another phase (I think the correct term) at which point supply continues. If we are streaming media during this type of outage, on rebooting the NAS it always goes through an FS check which takes > 30 minutes due to the size of the FS. The UPS fixes this situation, the NAS doesn't go down and we can restart media streaming as soon as our other devices (TV, amp etc) are back up. 2. We have a very sensitive earth leakage safety switch installed in our home. Occasionally a power surge will trip this switch and engage the breaker. It must be reset manually before we have any power to wall outlets. These outages sometimes occur overnight when we are asleep and we have to wake up and manually reset the switch to restore power to our wall outlets. My problem is with the second type of outage when it occurs overnight. At this time both NAS are in sleep mode but they draw some current in order to power the auto-on functionality. If the switch gets tripped at 1am the UPS kicks in and slowly drains it's battery powering the sleep/standby state of the units. Since the UPS sensing feature of the NAS appears to not be active the units stay in standby even when the UPS battery reaches 0% at which point the UPS beeps 4 times a minute until I (or my wife) wakes up and has to go flip the breaker back on. Now my question (if you lasted through all that :-))... is there a way to either - 1. Get the NAS to recognize that the UPS has kicked in while in standby and shutdown rather than continue to draw power? or 2. Silence the 'battery drained' alarm on the UPS and have it cut power to all devices (nothing in the manual or on the net I have found so far). Alternatively it would be great if the UPS had a threshold for drain, in that it halts using battery if the drain is below a lower limit (below the drain that the NV+ draws in standby). I do understand that replacing my 'sensitive' earth leakage switch could solve the problem but the advice I've had from a tame electrical contractor is that it's better to have that sensitivity than not... If you're still with me I'd love to hear if you have a suggestion, thanks for reading. Cheers, Andy
