Hello, I want to change the MAC address for my Netgear Nighthawk router. I do not see any option for this in the router's configuration menu. I know that this is possible with other Netgear routers. Would anyone please tell me how to do this? Thank you.Solved74KViews0likes14CommentsR7000 NAS Drive Can't Delete Files Folders Permissions Issue User \ Nobody
I have the R7000 with a Seagate STBV4000100 4TB USB 3.0 drive connected. I can connect to it just fine, drive shares work etc. From a WIN 7 64bit OS system using windows explorer I can create folders, files etc. Problem is, on occasion when I try to delete some files or folders I get the following message; "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from Unix User\nobody to make changes to this folder" It would seem I'm not able to change the permissions from windows explorer either. Would anyone know how I can change the permissions so I can delete from windows explorer? One thing of note. When I copied the folders/files to the NAS drive from the windows system, some of the files were marked as read only. Not sure if this is part of the issue, but either way. How can I set the permissions to something so I can delete them from windows? NOTE: If I disconnect the drive from the router and connect it directly to the PC... it works fine. As router and PC are not on same floor, this is not practical and defeats the purpose. I understand that, as shipped, the Ethernet port on the WiFi Extender is essentially just an output in case you have any devices nearby that need to be plugged in. But I was wondering if I could change the configuration of the Extender's Ethernet port to act as an input instead? In my apartment, the WiFi Extender's repeater functionality (picking up wireless signal and extending it) is very inconsistent. The internet signal will constantly drop without any indication, and in general the signal is a bit slower than I'd like. So my idea was to run a Powerline setup from my Router to the other end of the apartment and hard-wire my Extender directly to that. In theory, this would feed a much stronger Internet signal to the Extender than having it just pick up and repeating a wireless signal. I plugged everything in as such, tried the WPS function too, but unfortunately it hasn't worked yet. Any ideas on how to implement that kind of setup? Thanks!Solved66KViews0likes2CommentsInternet speed and Router settings -
You ever feel like the cable companies should be playing carnicval music - The cable company was giving me extreme speed and I was only getting 20 mps when I should of been getting 30 or better - They said it was the modem and sent me one - A direct ethernet connection to the modem produced at about 38 mpbs - My wireless which they so kindly deleted for me only produces about 18 to 20 - and etc .... .Of course saving it was easy once I got over the intial holy crap portion of my evening - Any hoot - They think it's in the router settings - I'm lost I've set my speed at 54 - which should be high enough - I have like 150 and 300 or something - They gave me a modem address password and username from the address on the new modem but since I recovered my old setting I didn't change anything - Seems like the cable company could help to set these settings but gotta come here and ask - Can any one help me or steer me in the right direction to help my routers performance - I should be doing much better than 20 mps - I have a N3000 Wireless Router WNR20000V3 updated today - 4/7/16/ V1.1.2.12Solved66KViews0likes15CommentsR8000/R7900: No Wireless Bridge Mode?
Surprised to see that there is no bridge mode option in R7900/R8000 admin settings. The only feature that's available is the Wireless AP mode. Is this correct? Am I missing something? Even on the R7000, there is an option under Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings to convert one of the radios to connect to another router (Use other operation mode > Setup Bridge Mode Wireless Settings). Is there any reason why this would be disabled on the R8000/R7900? Is there a firmware version that still has this feature enabled that I can revert to? I have the R7900 variant, and my current firmware is 1.0.1.4. To clarify, I'm not talking about bridging an IPTV to the Internet or using the R8000/R7900 as an AP. I'm talking about getting the R8000/R7900 to wirelessly bridge with another wifi router.Solved64KViews0likes22CommentsNetgear AC1900 R7000 Multiple Xbox Ones Open NAT Type
Hi all, What is the best solution for multiple Xbox Ones on the same network. I have two Xbox Ones. My issue - getting an open NAT Type on both Xbox Ones. Both systems have an open NAT, but not for multiplayer games. More specificly, black ops 3. I have UPnP enabled, but my black ops 3 nat type is set to moderate. When looking at the UPnP list, I see a port for Xbox Live Serice in the list as 3074, but black ops 3 requires port 3075 UDP. At one time, UDP 3075 was listed for one of my Xbox Ones and now that is no longer the case. So, what I have to do is setup port forwarding and add only one of my Xbox Ones IP address as a custom service with port UDP 3075 and it works. That's great and all, but my IP for my Xbox Ones (both) will change from time to time. I thought UPnP would take care of this for me. How should I handle this so that both Xbox Ones use port UDP 3075 and I don't have to worry about the IP changing? Or, does there need to be a firmware update from Negear for my router since Black Ops is no longer using the Xbox Live port of 3074? I am on the latest firmware update as of today (Nov 9 2015) of V1.0.4.30_1.1.67. Again, I thought having UPnP enabled would solve my issues with runing two Xbox Ones on the same network. Your thoughts/suggestions are much appreciated! Thank you for your time and help in advance! p.s. I want to recap...I am getting an Open NAT for both Xbox Ones (if I go to the Xbox One settings/network settings tab), but I will get one Xbox One with an Open NAT and the other with a Moderate NAT when playing multiplayer on black ops 3. Treyarch has said that they no longer use the same port as Xbox Live, now they use port 3075. Hope this makes sense...please let me know if you need more info or have questions. mSolved63KViews1like11CommentsHow to block specific devices that connect to WiFi router (C6300)
I know enough just to be dangerous and have discovered the Block Services Setup under the Advanced tab in Netgear's Genie application. What I would like to do is block certain devices that connect to the router every once in a while (i.e. when one of the kids is punished I would like to block all of their devices without it impacting other kids/family members). I noticed that I can block services for certain IP addresses; however, the IP addresses on the devices change automatically. Is there a way that I can block services based on the MAC addresses instead of IP addresses? If not, I am assuming that I will have to set up each device with a static IP. If I do this what happens if a visitor comes over to the house with their wireless device? Is the router smart enough not to automatically assign an IP address that has already been assigned to another device but not turned on? Otherwise if the same IP address is assigned automatically to the new device and an old device with the same static IP address is turned on it will interfere right? What is the best way to deal with this issue (block specific devices and preventing IP addessing problems if I need to assign static IPs)? Thanks!57KViews0likes4CommentsSetup R7000 in Bridge Mode
I am the new owner of two Nighthawk R7000 Routers. One I have configured as a router - it's connected to an Arris Surfboard 6190 cable modem and working flawlessly with both wired and wirelsss clients that are connected. I want to setup the other Nighthawk in bridge mode right next the AV equipment that I use principally for streaming. I setup the second Nighthawk and configured in bridge mode according to these instructions. I have ethernet running between the Nighthawk router upstaris in the office and the Nighthawk bridge in the AV room. I expected that the two devices would connect via the ethernet cable (which is connected via a LAN port out on the router and the WAN port in on the bridge), but that's not what is happening - the bridge is showing as connected to the router via wireless. Further, I have devices (e.,g an Apple TV) connected via ethernet to the bridge, but on the attached devices map of the router, these devices are showing a wireless, not a wired connection. Where did I go wrong in my setup? Thanks in adcvance! -ScotSolved40KViews0likes13Comments
