2154 TopicsUsing ReadyNAS as backend for lightweight web tools — is it reliable?
Hi everyone, I currently maintain a small web tool (for example a gratuity / end-of-service benefit calculator for users in the UAE), and I’m evaluating options to host user data, logs, JSON storage files, and backups. My ideal setup is a lightweight, always-on system without needing a full server. That’s where ReadyNAS caught my interest. Some of the things I’m considering: Using ReadyNAS to host REST APIs, static JSON or YAML config files, and backing up user session data. Ensuring data integrity and performance — especially under concurrent access. Handling firmware updates without breaking API endpoints. Syncing backups to cloud or another NAS for redundancy. A few questions for those experienced with ReadyNAS: 1. Has anyone used ReadyNAS to back a small web service or tool (not just file server)? 2. What is the maximum recommended concurrent requests for lightweight API files (JSON) on ReadyNAS? 3. Which methods have you used for version-safe firmware updates so that custom services are not lost? 4. How do you handle secure access (SSL, tokens) when serving APIs from a NAS that’s also storing private user data? If anyone’s already built similar backend or microservice setups using ReadyNAS, I’d love pointers or pitfalls to avoid. Thank you!49Views0likes1CommentReadynas ultra 6 won't go past readynas screen
Ho all, after many years I've decided to tackle my readymas issue. I had an issue with it 3 years back and paid a tech to look at it, he said 2 drives had collapsed and replaced them. It worked again after restriping or what ever it did. Fine for 6 months then wouldn't work again. I check and hes put in normal drives, a different brand and refurbished. I'm suspecting one or more of the drives have again died so it won't start up. We tried to access the boot menu, it won't go past the readynas screen. We did as mentioned in paperwork and held in the reset button and nothing past readynas screen. Took all drives out and tested, it cones up with no drives, so assume its working still. What's the best way forward from here please? Ideas? No idea which drives aren't working so cant just replace them. I'm not that tech savvy but my kids are 😜 and trying to fix it for me.62Views0likes9CommentsReadyNas Duo stuck on "system starting up"
I desperately need some help. I bought a used ReadyNAS Duo today. After struggling with the password, I eventually got in, but I couldn’t do much besides changing the password. I wasn’t able to upload files, create folders, or perform any other tasks. I decided to try a factory reset, but that seems to have been a mistake. According to Google, I was supposed to turn it off, hold down the reset button, turn it on, and only release the reset when all LEDs were on, after which I could cycle with the backup. However, every time I tried, only the LED for disk 2 lit up. I repeatedly forced it to shut down by removing the power cable because it didn’t make any sense. I also discovered that to access the admin page, I had to use an old browser, as newer browsers wouldn’t work for some reason. Now, when I start up the NAS, it just says “System starting up” and has been stuck like this for a long time. I only have one HDD installed, and when I checked it on my main PC, it appeared fine, but it was completely empty. Could this be related to the issue? Can someone please help me and tell me what to do? It’s very frustrating to have bought something that now seems completely useless.34Views0likes4CommentsReadynas 316 PSU failing?
My poor 316, which has been rock solid for years, stuttered on power up yesterday. Basically started to power up after pressing power button then shutdown after about 2-3 seconds, did this 3 times. I then removed the power for a few minutes and tried again, successful startup. No issues in logs, no issues with disks. Multiple backups so no great concern about data. I can only think this is a PSU that is beginning to fail so I’ve ordered a new one (there is a seller on eBay UK that sells one that has the correct pinout for my unit. I’ve replaced a PSU on an NV+ which is still going after nearly 20 years and my Ultra 6 is still on it’s original PSU. Without clear evidence that this was a PSU problem I’m not sure whether to leave the existing PSU until there’s a more obvious failure or to replace and hope that there isn’t a more complex problem (like a MB issue) Anyone seen these symptoms before ?48Views0likes3CommentsReadyNAS 626X (RN626X00) S/N 4MD46CEL000F1
Dear Team, yesterday unexpectedly my NAS server stopped working so i rebooted the NAS after it was stuck on booting at 46% and then after long time its booted. but i was not able to access it through admin page. it has 4TB of 4 HDD on RAID5 ,DISK 3 LED is BLINKING. on front display showing resyncing of data 10.95% , 0MB available out off 10.91 TB. in Admin login page following error are showing. i have rnv-s2-0000 nv+ v1 (sparc) x-raid currently it gets stuck in the "booting..." sequence (with 4 drivers) i am trying drives one by one in slot 1, and so far only 1 hdd (previously in slot 3) is fine and booting (in slot 1, as a single drive). i get to the web ui the other hdd shows "err bad firmware" when booting by itself in slot 1 (previously in slot 4) i am trying to flash the redynas firmware on that drive, but i am struggling to find the proper boot image (i either get "os index error" or "bios info, usb init" messages on readiness) could someone point me at the correct image for the usb flashing of the possibly corrupt firmware image on the drive for 4.1.8 nv+ v1, please? then i can write it onto a bootable fat32 usb stick and go from there (tftp would also be fine, if someone has the image) and of course, i have other 2 disks to deal with (i suspect - corrupt), but i figured i can at least get this one going first thank you!72Views0likes7CommentsOS Reinstall worked ... UPS issue?
First off many thanks to Netgear and everyone in this forum...after reading several posts from here...I was able to fix my issue after some initial panic. But I'm wondering what happened or if I have the UPS setup wrong. My RN104 (with 4x8TB drives and latest FW) has been trucking along for almost 10 years with no issues..but last night, our power went out for 5-10 minutes and the unit turned itself off, despite being physically connected to a UPS. I also have a synology NAS connected to same UPS and it has the USB cable connected to it. My Netgear RN104 is monitoring the UPS using the network SNMP connection from the synology. When i powered on the Rn104, it booted up fine to 100% but then totally shut off within 30 seconds. Same thing after several attempts and connecting power directly to wall. I pulled out the drives and when I booted up, it was fine and I could connect to it browser. Put the drives back in, praying for a miracle, but NADA...same behavior, shutdown immediatley following boot up. I started to panic given that Netgear no longer supports Readynas...but I kept reading and researching. Eventually, from the posts here and the Netgear manual, I decided to try the OS reinstall option and that did the trick...I was able to login and deal with minor IP address issues..but no data loss! The logs show when the power went out and came back...but then this entry seems odd: Jun 21, 2025 01:15:42 AM System: The system is shutting down. Jun 21, 2025 01:15:25 AM System: UPS UPS () is forcing shutdown. After I restored, I deleted the UPS SNMP entry(just in case)...but could this be a bug in OS 6 code to read the network UPS? or did I set up wrong? Anyone use a Readynas with SNMP UPS and the codes it receives? No issues on the Synology NAS with the same UPS(via cable) when power came back online. Also wondering if I should start thinking about a replacement/newer unit. But this is my 2nd Netgear ReadyNas I have owned and I think they work perfect for my use cases. Again, many thanks to this community. Sorry for long post...TLDR: Is there something wrong with UPS codes being read by Readynas OS6 or time to replace?83Views0likes5CommentsNetgear RNDP6000 in safe mode
My NAS went into safe mode this afternoon. My conclusion is that i might need to re-install the OS. The documentation page on the netgear site is unavailable and i have found some instructions but are not explicit enough to move forward. Could someone please provide detailed instructions as i cannot afford to lose the data on these disks. This NAS had been working fine and for no reason lost contact with the network. I needed to power cycle it and it has set itself to the basic configuration. I can see that the disks are all present and in a RAID 5 configuration.Solved113Views0likes4CommentsReadyNAS104 assistance needed
Hi, I have an old ReadyNAS 104 that apparently just crashed. I can get it to reboot and I can access it from a browser but it shows the volume as new? I have 4 - Toshipba 3 TB drives in a RAID 4 configuration. I have attempted to access the BOOT menu by rebooting the NAS with my finger on the power button but that does not appear to work. When I look at the drives they are all showing green but "new" and the volume I had for many years is now gone. Please help84Views0likes2Comments
