66 Topicsrealtime bandwidth monitoring by device
It would be great if you could see realtime bandwidth per device for the netgear r7000, similar to Google Wifi and Eero. It would be a really useful info and diagnostic tool to see what devices are currently taking up bandwidth. It would be great if this was added to the router web administration page as well theNetgear Genie and/or Netgear Up apps. I've attached a screenshot of how this feature looks on Google Wifi.26KViews93likes15CommentsAbility to import VPN Provider Profiles (ie ExpressVPN, Nord VPN, etc)
It would be nice if Netgear actually had an option to use the roters as a VPN client like ASUS allows, with the ability to import profiles from VPN providers like ExpressVPN, Nord VPN and others. Also the ability to bypass VPN for certain devices would also be nice. ASUS routers with similar CPUs & WiFi chipsets offer this on their routers which are also priced lower. If you are going to charge premium prices over your competitors features like this shoud be there.5.6KViews57likes7CommentsFirewall Rules for Internet/WAN -> LAN on IPv4 and IPv6, LAN -> WAN/Internet for IPv4 and IPv6
Amazing Orbi, Orbo Pro, Nighthawk Routers, DSL Routers, Mobile Routers have service blocking (only for IPv4 why ever) - limiting the LAN -> Internet access (why ever somebody want to do this) but there is no control to manage firewall rules for Internet/WAN -> LAN. When can we expect a workable UI ot manage firewall rules for IPv4 and IPv6 LAN->Internet and Internet/WAN->LAN please? And then support for a ISP changing IPv6 prefix (ie. if the ISP does change the IPv6 prefix because they use rapid deployment (6rd) where the prefix is linked to the IPv4 address. And every time a user is seeking or this the Netgear mods reply to use Service Blocking - what of course does not work for WAN/Internet -> LAN. Netgear, please DO NOT DISPLAY the WiFi passwords in the clear for the primary and guest networks on the default Basic -> Home page of the http://orbilogin.com web interface. The passwords should not be displayed on this page at all, instead it would be more helpful to display the encryption being used on both the Primary and Guest WiFi networks for this status page. Please correct this security issue! The password can still be shown when uncovered on the WiFi Settings pages if needed, else it should only show *********** to hide the SSID password. There is absolutely NO REASON to display PASSWORDS IN CLEAR TEXT on the home page!2.5KViews27likes9Comments(Outgoing) VPN client functionality
Hi, I am using a VPN service on my devices for privacy purposes, but I hoped it would be possible to set the router up as a VPN endpoint so that the connection would be transparent to the devices. In addition to being easier to maintain one connection, opposed to separate connections per device, I would also think this would be more secure: With a kill switch in the router, the devices would lose internet access and be unable to use an unsecure connection. It would also probably save the smartphone battery as the VPN app wouldn't have to be active continously. This functionality would be helpful even if it was implemented without any advanced features, however I see that it could potentially be expanded with more advanced functionality as following steps. The background: I'm using a shared internet connection going through my landlord's router, and I like to use VPN to protect my privacy. I hope this is something you could consider. Please let me know in case of any questions or if any specification is necessary. Thank you!14KViews16likes4CommentsPi-Hole as an app/plugin for Netgear Orbi
I think it would be pretty awesome if Netgear made their Network devices like the Netgear Orbi support the free software called Pi-Hole via an app/plugin support feature on the device itself. For those that dont know Pi-Hole is a FREE network wide ad blocker that you install on a Raspberry Pi and then after its installed on Raspberry Pi you connect the Raspberry Pi to your router and setup the Raspberry Pi as the DNS server. I would love to see Netgear make Pi-Hole compatible with their devices without having to buy a Raspberry Pi, maybe add it as a plugin or addon that you can install on Netgear devices? This is the link where you can learn more about Pi-Hole Link: https://pi-hole.net/3.1KViews9likes3CommentsDOCSIS 3.1/Eurodocsis 3.0 Modem
An enormously valuable feature of any router is knowledge of what devices are connected to the router. IFTTT presents a huge opportunity for Orbi to integrate its knowledge of connected devices to hundreds of other cloud and IoT services. Enabling Orbi to trigger when a device is detected on the network, expands Orbi's capability with everything from Security to parental control capabilities. Just look at a device like Fingbox, where its customers are willing to pay $100 for this sort of capability. Engineering costs for supporting IFTTT probably makes it one of the most valuable bang per buck possibilities out there. Short of full IFTTT integration and an even simpler way of exposing this cloud connected router capability would be to have Orbi support a webhook when a device connects and disconnects.3.1KViews4likes2CommentsRS700 WAN Failover
I have the following hardware: Netgear LM1200 - LTE Modem Netgear CM2000 - Cable Modem Netgear RS700 During the pandemic, like many, my company swapped to a remote or hybrid model. That means that my internet is now critical to my employment. As such, I implemented a backup for when my cable goes down (3 times in 2 years). Currently my network looks like this: CM2000 -> LM1200 -> RS700 -> 10GBE Switch. The issue is that Comcast in my area is going to start >1Gbps testing soon, but I am currently being limited by the 1GBE passthrough in the LM1200. I see that the RS700 allows WAN aggregation (10GBE+1GBE), but it would be helpful if you also allowed WAN failover from the 10GBE to the 1 GBE Port. In my case I would have the CM2000 connected to the 10GBE port (at 2.5GBE) and the LM1200 on the 1 GBE Port for the failover. If the system is capable of link aggregation it has to be capable of failover.1.2KViews3likes2Comments
