1914 TopicsUsing ReadyNAS as backend for lightweight web tools — is it reliable?
Hi everyone, I currently maintain a small web tool (for example a gratuity / end-of-service benefit calculator for users in the UAE), and I’m evaluating options to host user data, logs, JSON storage files, and backups. My ideal setup is a lightweight, always-on system without needing a full server. That’s where ReadyNAS caught my interest. Some of the things I’m considering: Using ReadyNAS to host REST APIs, static JSON or YAML config files, and backing up user session data. Ensuring data integrity and performance — especially under concurrent access. Handling firmware updates without breaking API endpoints. Syncing backups to cloud or another NAS for redundancy. A few questions for those experienced with ReadyNAS: 1. Has anyone used ReadyNAS to back a small web service or tool (not just file server)? 2. What is the maximum recommended concurrent requests for lightweight API files (JSON) on ReadyNAS? 3. Which methods have you used for version-safe firmware updates so that custom services are not lost? 4. How do you handle secure access (SSL, tokens) when serving APIs from a NAS that’s also storing private user data? If anyone’s already built similar backend or microservice setups using ReadyNAS, I’d love pointers or pitfalls to avoid. Thank you!63Views0likes1CommentReady NAS vide en synchronisation depuis 15 heures
D'avance merci. Cordialement. My poor 316, which has been rock solid for years, stuttered on power up yesterday. Basically started to power up after pressing power button then shutdown after about 2-3 seconds, did this 3 times. I then removed the power for a few minutes and tried again, successful startup. No issues in logs, no issues with disks. Multiple backups so no great concern about data. I can only think this is a PSU that is beginning to fail so I’ve ordered a new one (there is a seller on eBay UK that sells one that has the correct pinout for my unit. I’ve replaced a PSU on an NV+ which is still going after nearly 20 years and my Ultra 6 is still on it’s original PSU. Without clear evidence that this was a PSU problem I’m not sure whether to leave the existing PSU until there’s a more obvious failure or to replace and hope that there isn’t a more complex problem (like a MB issue) Anyone seen these symptoms before ?52Views0likes3Commentssudo: unable to write to /var/lib/sudo/ts/admin: No space left on device
I've SSHed into my NAS and got this message: sudo: unable to write to /var/lib/sudo/ts/admin: No space left on device This has all seemed to start after doing some tinkering with the Logitech Media Server which I now suspect, could have been installed incorrectly in the wrong location. If I run df -h the result is: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on udev 10M 4.0K 10M 1% /dev /dev/md0 4.0G 3.7G 4.0K 100% / tmpfs 491M 4.0K 491M 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 491M 3.7M 487M 1% /run tmpfs 246M 1.4M 244M 1% /run/lock tmpfs 491M 0 491M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup /dev/md127 2.8T 1.9T 855G 70% /data /dev/md127 2.8T 1.9T 855G 70% /home /dev/md127 2.8T 1.9T 855G 70% /apps If I attempt to logon via the ReadyNAS GUI I continually get asked for the user and password, entering admin and then password just loops back around to another dialogue box with the same request. Please reassure me that I haven't completely borked the ReadyNAS OS!
Hello, I have recently upgraded to 6.10 on my Readynas 212 and have been constantly hampered by not being able to log into the admin account from Chrome. This occurs 90% of the time stating that too many failed attempts have occurred and retry in 5 minutes. This has not occurred in the past before the firmware upgrade. I have setup a recovery password but I am weary and tired on doing this all the time. I can shh into the Nas which I have done and rebooted and once up attempted to log into the units but with the same failed attemp notice. Can something be done to keep this from constantly happening. Thanks for any help. PS. Even using the recovery password produces the same result of failed attempts!!Solved22KViews1like21Comments[SOLVED!] Having strange issues using your device, and have antivirus enabled?
We have a few reports of users recently who had issues performing tasks on their device. We root-caused this to be related to the Antivirus engine. We successfully tested and pushed the patch to the update server last night. In order to receive this patch: You must be on ReadyNAS OS 6.9.2 (ReadyNAS OS 6.9.3 will contain the fix natively; we will not fix previous versions). Your ReadyNAS must be connected to the internet. You need Antivirus turned off to apply the patch properly. If you don't mind waiting a bit, your ReadyNAS should automatically download and receive the hotfix within 24-48 hours. Check below how to check if you received the patch before turning Antivirus on again. If you want the apply the patch immediately, reboot your ReadyNAS and wait 15 minutes. Check below how to check if you received the patch before turning Antivirus on again. How to check if you received the patch: Go to your ReadyNAS's Admin Page Go to System > Logs, and click Download All Logs Open the downloaded zip file, and open the file apt-history.log Scroll to the bottom and look for a line that shows an upgrade of readynasos to 6.9.2+1: Start-Date: 2018-01-31 10:55:16 Commandline: apt-get -qq install -fy rn-dictionary freeapp-collection readynasos ca-certificates Upgrade: readynasos:armel (6.9.2, 6.9.2+1) End-Date: 2018-01-31 10:55:18 If you have this, then you have received the patch and you can turn on Antivirus again. Please create a thread if you have any issues. Thanks for your patience. Last updated: Jan 30 2018 @ 7:45 PM PacificSolved33KViews2likes2CommentsRAID-5 vs RAID-6 rebuild speed
I have been upgrading disks in my various ReadyNAS units. The 4 bay units are RAID-5 and the 6 bay units are RAID-6. I haven't really seen it discussed here, so I thought I would point out that if you're using RAID-6, the rebuild times are going to be a lot longer than if you're used to RAID-5, due to having to generate the additional parity. For example, I have my RN204 and one of my RN316's. Both are using 7200 RPM drives. Both are going from 4TB to 10TB drives. Both are using FlexRAID. The rebuild speed on the RN204 using RAID-5 is about 95MB/s, whereas the RN316's using RAID-6 is about 30MB/s. I was surprised that the RN316 with its 2 core/4 thread Atom CPU was that much slower than the little dual core ARM in the RN204. I figured that it would be more linear. But, If I remember correctly, my RN516 with its 8 core 2.4GHz Xeon and 16GB of memory was also about 30MB/s using the same 7200RPM drives, it's possible that ReadyNAS OS is artificially limiting the rebuild speed (providing my memory is indeed correct). So nothing earth shattering here, just something I found interesting and thought I'd share.698Views0likes3CommentsNAS RN212 SSD Detected increasing ATA error count error code
NAS RN212 SSD Detected increasing ATA error count error code I do not see any testing while in the Admin page. I want to test the SSD concerning these errors. This is a new SSD. Is the only testing in the Boot menu?1.1KViews0likes7Comments"Cannot copy - file path too long" NV+
Hi all, again! I have now, so far, no problem to transfer smaller files in large quantities (like mp3's etc), it work flawlessly even over my wireless network. I have a media player (Tvix M-7000A) which is also now connected to the NV+ and it plays movies and music like a dream! (everything through my router Netgear WNR3500 and a D-link DWA-547 wireless NIC on my PC) BUT - as soon as I try to copy a movie file (like 4,5 gb) over to the NV+ it always starts really good, the speed is high....but after just a few minutes I receive the error message: "Cannot copy - file path too long".....and the file names is NOT too long. I've understood that this has to do with the communication between my PC (with XP) and the NV+....correct? My setting is now (in NV+): "auto-negotiation" and MTU 1500...I have tried all kind of settings, but it doesn't help (when I change, I receive the same error when transferring the mp3's etc as well) I followed a tip received earlier to transfer my movie files via USB (through backup function in NV+) - ok, no problem, but it took 2 days to complete the copy (1TB). I really want to avoid running back and forth with a USB drive to transfer files to my NV+, it seems very stone age in my opinion! So, this is my last issue that I really hope to solve...any ideas?2.3KViews1like10Comments
