WiFi Routers
394 TopicsMultiple SSID's for WIFI Routers
Currently Netwgear WIFI Routers only have the ability to have 2 x WIFI SSID's - Main Routers SSID (2.4 Ghz & 5 Ghz) and the Guest SSID (2.4 Ghz & 5 Ghz). Need the ability to have a minimum of 5 SSID's, there need to be selectable as to what is Main & Secondary SSID and what are Guest SSID's. Many other WIFI Routers Support this feature as a stanard, even base line Routers. I've gotten very frustrated wtih the "Attached Devices" list format on the R7800. With the large icons on the left hand end of each attached client entry "line", I can only get 3 clients in a full "Attached Devices" window. Since I have about 20 clients on my LAN, that's a LOT of scrolling around to see what devices are on the network, or to find a particular device. If the list of attached devices could be presented as a matrix of single lines, like is done on the Orbi in the 1.x versions; e.g. v1.12.x, I could see what devices were connected to my network at a glance rather than having to scroll around and not find clients in general. This is the way that "Attached Devices" lists used to be, a simple, compact listing, like a "detailed list" of files in the Windows File Explorer user interface, and those compact lists were much more useful to me. The giant lists with the large icons are more decorative (I suppose), but not nearly as useful as a simple compact list. I usually give each client a name when I go through the list to label each one for the router to use for client prioritization, so the icons are really useless to me, they just make the "Attached Devices" listing much harder to use. So I propose a choice for the user...one can pick either the giant icon-style list or the compact matrix, "detailed list"-style list. So if the device icon lists are really of use to anyone, they'll still be available to them, while those of us that simply want to be able to see the "Attached Devices" list at a glance with minimal scrolling can do that.31KViews4likes9CommentsKeep wireless passwords from automatically showing up on router login pages
On the WMDR4500v2, when you login, you go to the basic login page. Among the things displayed are the wireless passwords for any of the wireless networks you have active. I have been told by Netgear support that this behavior cannot be changed. I would like to suggest that this be changed for this router and any others that have this same "feature". Displaying the password in plain text is a HUGE security risk and can be observed by anyone near you when you login. One cannot plan the times one might to need to login and one might not be in a secure, isolated location away from prying eyes or cameras. I would like to see the passwords removed from displaying on this page, in fact they should not by default be displayed on any page in plain text.30KViews9likes8CommentsLimiting Bandwidth Usage by Throttling the SSID - WIFI Routers
WIFI Routers. Need to be able to Throttle Bandwith (Download & Upload Speeds) by SSID. Abilty to Select any SSID (2.4Ghx, 5Ghz, 60Ghz) and Normal SSID's and Guest SSID's and Throttle / Limit the Upload and Download Speeds of the SSID. 90% of all WIFI Routers have this FEATURE as a Standard, from Baseline Routers up to Highend. Using the Q.O.S method add's a massive amount of Adminitration, if you have a number of people connecting on and off any SSID to create a QOS rule for every Device will be a huge Administrative Task continously.. It would be great if you could see realtime bandwidth per device for the netgear r7000, similar to Google Wifi and Eero. It would be a really useful info and diagnostic tool to see what devices are currently taking up bandwidth. It would be great if this was added to the router web administration page as well theNetgear Genie and/or Netgear Up apps. I've attached a screenshot of how this feature looks on Google Wifi.26KViews93likes15CommentsRouter Auto-lockout after x number of failed password attempts
I try to be vigilant about my security, from protecting my SS# to changing my passwords regularity. Therefore, the R7900 Nighthawk Router really needs the option of locking out anyone who attempts to gain access to the admin account after a specified number of failed attempts. Considering this option exists for the router's Pin (which I have yet to use,) I am astounded that to date, Netgear engineers have not considered adding the same functionality to the admin's password. Adding this layer of security would make the Nighthawk the perfect router.24KViews0likes3CommentsAdd Circle by Disney to the R9000 AD7200 router
Please add Circle to the R9000 Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Quad-Stream Wireless Router. I selected the R9000 because it had enough hardwired ports to connect to my existing wired network and the 2Gbps port agregation was a bonus for connecting to my Netgear ReadyNAS. However, for some reason NetGear has decided to abandon those who purchased their flagship Nighthawk router and are offering Circle only on there less expensive models. Also, just to add some confusion, if you go to the R9000 product page, there are references to Circle on the page under parental controls!21KViews14likes19CommentsNETGEAR Nighthawk X10 R9000 - Firmware Update to Enable Dual WAN Port Bonding - LAG / LACP
Since DOCSIS 3.1 has been released in many markets (Cox, Comcast etc) in the US giving us the consumer options to upgrade to speeds greater to or equal to that of 1Gbps I would like to request to see if it would be possible for Netgear to create a Firmware Update that would give us the ability to Bond two WAN ports with LAG / LACP on the R9000, using the available LAN1 and LAN2 ethernet ports designated for Static LAG or LACP-IEEE 803.3ad. There are now many consumer grade DOCSIS 3.1 Modems that support this due to the fact that speeds are now at or above 1Gbps. In order to bypass the 1Gbps physical port bottle neck, this makes perfect sense. Just for the sake of naming a few modems that have this capability, here I name a few: Motorola MB8600, Arris CM8200, Arris SB8200. I'm sure Netgear will also release DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems that have WAN port bonding simply due to the new speeds of internet available to us via this medium.18KViews1like4Comments
