Found on the RBR and RBS IP address/debug.htm web page for best details, please post both RBR and RBS uptime. Please note of any inconsistencies between the RBR and RBS. Generally the RBR and RBS uptime should be same. Home wide power brown outs should be noted if these are seen. Thank you.2.8KViews0likes17CommentsOrbi 770 – WiFi Drops Every Hour
At the beginning of the year, I posted in this forum about hourly interruptions with my ORBI770 mesh system. At the time, other users were experiencing similar problems, and I worked with Netgear Support to identify and solve the issue. Unfortunately, the past 8–9 months have been unsuccessful... Recently, I have read less from others with the same problem. Perhaps the problem has been solved for others, or they have switched to a different vendor. Unfortunately, the problem has not yet been solved for me, and I am still regularly writing to Netgear Support and uploading logs. Unfortunately, without a qualified answer or solution. Over the past few days, I have tried a number of troubleshooting measures, such as: Adjusting NTP to a different NTP server Deactivating DHCP on ORBI and providing it on a Linux server Disabling private MAC addresses on all Apple devices and so on ... Unfortunately, none of this has been successful and I still experience hourly interruptions. I have now provided ChatGPT with the information and uploaded the log files, and received the response in the pdf attached to this post. I am aware that ChatGPT is often wrong and often just writes nonsense (e.g. firmware version, which are not available). But maybe it points in the right direction, since Netgear Support doesn't feel responsible for simply analysing log files. I also installed uptime-kuma on my computer and pinged various devices over the last few hours. I can only set the pings to every 20 seconds, so it doesn't catch all the hourly interruptions. However, you can see the pattern. In the first three screenshots, I marked the interruptions at xx:03 / xx:04 in red. In the last three screenshots, I ping the router and satellites (all wired). I find it interesting that the satellites respond faster than the router. But perhaps that is normal behaviour. Am I alone, or do others still have the same problem? Thanks. I’m posting this to document a serious defect in the Orbi 770 series and to express growing frustration after months of dealing with it. I have an Orbi 770 system (RBE770 satellites, firmware V10.5.20.3). One or both satellites will randomly stop broadcasting on all bands (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz) while continuing to report a perfectly healthy status everywhere Netgear tells you to look. From the router UI: Satellites show “Good” Backhaul (wired or wireless — tested both) remains connected No warnings, alerts, or errors From the Orbi mobile app: Satellites show online and healthy No indication of any issue From the satellite’s own web UI (when you log in directly): The page proudly states “Your WiFi Orbi Satellite connection is up and running” However, ALL radios (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz) are disabled This is incredibly misleading. Yes, the satellite is powered on — but it is not functioning as a WiFi access point. The management interface claims everything is fine while the radios are effectively dead. The only way to discover this is by: Noticing degraded WiFi performance, and Manually logging into the satellite’s local web UI to confirm the radios are disabled There is no notification, no alert, and no exposed log entry that explains why this happens. Impact When this occurs: Clients drop or cling to distant APs Overall network performance degrades The mesh effectively collapses silently The only workaround is rebooting the affected satellite(s). This restores service temporarily, but the issue reoccurs — often once or twice per week. For a system in this price range, that is unacceptable. Why “Interference” Is Not a Valid Answer Even if this were RF-related (which I doubt), the platform provides no visibility and no control: No RSSI / dBm metrics No interference indicators No spectrum analysis No transmit power control No actionable RF diagnostics If satellites were “too close” (they aren’t, they're more than 40 feet away from each other), I still have no way to tune or mitigate overlap. The system simply disables itself and leaves the user guessing. Additional Context Firmware updates have not resolved this Hardware has been RMA’d with no improvement Wired vs wireless backhaul makes no difference My neighbor’s Orbi 970 series exhibits the same behavior All bands fail simultaneously, pointing to a firmware or radio state failure, not roaming behavior Conclusion This appears to be a fundamental firmware defect where the radio subsystem fails while every management interface (router UI, satellite UI, mobile app) continues to report “healthy” and “up and running.” For a premium mesh product, silently disabling radios with no alert, no diagnostics, and no explanation is unacceptable. If Netgear is aware of this issue, it needs to be acknowledged. If logs exist, they need to be exposed. If engineering is investigating, customers deserve transparency. Right now, this product behaves like an expensive beta.1.1KViews0likes20CommentsOver the past month approximately the disconnects have become increasingly frequent
My Orbi mesh system is 6 months old. After some initial setup pains, the system worked very well for 3-4 months. Over the past month approximately the disconnects have become increasingly frequent. As I write, the system is stable, but yesterday it was disconnecting every 5-10 minutes. The system includes the RBE771 and two RBE770 satellites covering a private residence of about 3500 sq. ft. Firmware is v10.5.20.3. All settings are in their default state. I have done the elementary troubleshooting steps—multiple reboots. (Haven’t tried a factory reset yet.) The ISP is Cox. The cable modem is a Surfboard SB8200. (I originally purchased a Nighthawk CM3000, but it would not function well on the Cox system and continually lost connection. Every cable in the house and in the neighborhood was replaced in troubleshooting that to no avail. At the suggestion of the Cox technicians, I finally replaced it with the Surfboard, which has worked very well.) My issue with the Orbi seems to be similar if not identical to those discussed here. Has anyone successfully identified a solution? Any suggestions on where I should start? (I have opened a case with Netgear support.)1.1KViews0likes44CommentsIPv6 Activation With Verizon FiOS
With the Orbi router (and previous Netgear routers) I found the only way to activate IPv6 is first use Auto Config. This will then default to 6to 4 Tunnel and give you a Router's IPv6 Address On LAN. Then do Auto Config and you will have IPv6. This may work on other Fiber systems. I also found for my Android phone (Galaxy S25) I needed to Enable RIPng to get IPv6 to work.999Views1like32Commentsorbi 770 connections issues + strange SSID
Hi everyone, sorry i dont speak well english so i used chat gpt to translate and make the sentence more understandable I recently upgraded from the Orbi 760 to the Orbi 770, and I’m facing some frustrating issues. The 760 worked fine for me (aside from not having the IoT SSID, ¨very frustrating ), but with the 770, I’ve been having a few problems. First, my iPad started asking me to connect to a network that looked very similar to mine. After some digging, I found out that the SSID "NTGRBH" was broadcasting the MAC address, which I’m not comfortable with. Is this normal? I’ve also been having frequent Wi-Fi drops, which seem random, and videos on social app don’t load or buffer for a long time (sometimes depending on the day). These issues didn’t happen with the 760. I’ve reset the router a few times, but the problems persist. The French support team I contacted wasn’t very helpful—they don’t seem aware of this issue, though I found some mentions of it in English online. What can I do to fix this? I’m not very tech-savvy, so I might not fully understand the technical details. Should I just go back to my old Orbi 760? (buy one again) I’m worried it might not get updates anymore, and it doesn’t have the IoT SSID important to me, but at least it worked better for me. Also, I haven’t set up the satellite because I didn’t think it was necessary, but the Wi-Fi signal in my room is weaker, and it cuts out quite often compared to the 760. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I’ve had non-stop issues with my Orbi RBE771 WiFi 7 mesh system. I recently started getting this message when new devices connect to my network…this was after a case I had open with Netgear for about 6 weeks. I’m starting to regret this purchase. Anyone have a fix for this:801Views0likes3CommentsSamsung Galaxy S25 and Wi-Fi 7
I have the Orbi 773. The Galaxy S25 work great with Wi-Fi 7 and where the reception is marginal, Wi-Fi 7 has a substantially stronger connection speed than Wi-Fi 6e. However, this seems to be a Samsung problem that the battery usage on Wi-Fi 7 is substantially greater than Wi-Fi 6e. If you have this problem, do a Google search on how to disable Wi-Fi 7 on the Samsung phone. You will also find many comments about this. Hopefully Samsung will come up with a fix.800Views0likes2CommentsOrbi RBE771 Latency issues every 60 minutes
Ever since purchasing RBE771 back in October of 2024, I have dealt with an issue where every 60 minutes exactly on the dot my internet has super high latency for 30-60 seconds, and then returns back to its normal high speeds. If I am on a Zoom call (laptop with WiFi) things get choppy and people say I am breaking up when I am speaking. If I am on my Desktop (connected via cable to the Orbi satellite) playing multi-player video games, the game gets choppy and yellow connection status icons display. I never fully disconnect, but it is extremely disruptive. I have tried for months and months on absolutely everything to try and resolve the issue, but have had no luck. I am currently on Firmware Version V10.5.18.3_2.2.37, though this issue was present in previous firmware versions as well. The satellite is 31 feet away from the base modem and router I have no Guest Network enabled. Armor is disabled. I have tried a variety of 5 GHz channels (currently using 157). I have disabled 20/40 MHz Coexistence. Traffic Meter is disabled. In the logs, there is nothing notable apart from a bunch of logs that look similar to this (without the *): [DHCP IP: (192.***.*.**)] to MAC address F0:**:**:**:**:**, Friday, May 30,2025 10:50:17 These log items don't seem to correspond with the time I see the latency issues. I am hoping someone has something else I can try to resolve this issue?800Views0likes26CommentsNew - RBE770 / RBE771 Firmware Version 10.5.20.10 Released
Release Date: January 28, 2026 Bug Fixes: Resolved security vulnerabilities Resolved P2 security vulnerabilities in accordance with Security Team requirements Implemented IPv6 automatic detection and configuration Download Link: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbe772/#download RELEASE NOTES links are not working on the download site. Made NG support aware of this. Hopefully fixed soon. Release not information is with in the .zip files for this version of FW. 1/30/2026: Links have been fixed. Firmware Update Instructions: To update your router’s firmware, follow the instructions in your router’s user manual. To view your router’s user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBE771.aspx#docs IF MANUALLY UPDATING THE SYSTEM: Be sure to update the RBS FIRST, then the RBR lastly. Please navigate to the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to update your RBR871/RBS870: Proceedure to Manually Firmware Update Orbi and Nighthawk Mesh systems I HIGHLY recommend after the FW is loaded on the system and it's back to ready, power OFF all Orbi units and the ISP modem/ONT for 1 minute. Then back ON with the ISP modem/ONT first, then RBR then RBS. NOTE: Orbi app or the routers web page may not report seeing new FW updates. NG may not push this to there auto update services immediately and may activate the newer FW update being seen on there auto update services at a later time. User will have the choice to manually update if you want too. FW UPDATE ALL Feature: If there is a FW updated seen on the RBRs web page and all RBS are online and connected with GOOD STATUS, you can select the UPDATE ALL button option to have the RBR update the RBS and RBR. Update All button is seen on the RBRs Firmware Update WEB page on the Check for Updates FW section of the page. Once FW has been checked for an update and all devices show the FW update is available, select the UPDATE ALL button. Give 5 minutes for the process to take place. Recommend powering OFF the Orbi system for 1 minute then back ON with the RBR first then RBS after Update All completes. Give 5-10 minutes for system to fully come to ready. NOTE: If continued problems are seen after a FW update, it's recommended to try a factory reset and setup from scratch with out loading any saved configurations from backup files. Use the ERASE button on the routers web page to factory reset the router: This sends a Factory Reset command to any and all connected RBS as well: Procedure for Factory Reset of RBE770 series systems use ERASE Button This article applies to: WiFi 7 (4) RBE770 RBE771 RBE772 RBE773 Let us know how it works for you...Please make a new post regarding any problems your seeing in the Orbi BE support forums.
