Want local IPv6 on Local network, but do not want IPv6 'internet connection'. Why? -connectivity / time-out issues with some web pages and work apps when IPv6 enabled, and a handful of Android Apps not loading when connected thru WiFi, but want IPV6 on Local Network for Matter / Thread. Set up: BT/EE ONT box - ethernet direct into Orbi Router - using PPPOE. (+2 x satellite on wireless backhaul). DNS Servers programmed thru 'orbi web interface' to use Cloudflare DNS. Most configurations left as is - IP Assignment left on Auto Config. Issue - recently set up Orbi 870 as moved away from Linksys Velop. Previously had IPv6 off since going over to EE over a year ago, couldn't configure PPPOE settings, but set up OK on Orbi. A lot of Smart Home devices - been troublesome whenever I've tried to set up matter / thread devices previously - noted however. Noted however - vast improvement with new Orbi Router. Issues with certain Web pages and work apps - changed DNS settings etc to no avail, then realised IPV6 was the issue. Disabled IPV6 on main PC, but still issues loading when phone connected to wifi. Turned off IPv6 and web issues resolved themselves - but now issues with matter / thread set up. Much as I delve into things, never actually realised till now Matter / Thread set up needs IPv6 enabled on LAN. This explains why as some points in the past, as my set-ups have differed, it worked fine, then hasn't worked. (have Thread Border access thru 2 x compatible Nest Hubs) Do notice some dissention online whereby some are saying you only need IPv6 for Matter set-up to obtain addresses, then can turn off - others saying on all the time - a few say not needed at all. I find that most of the my pre-set-up devices work with IPv4 only, but can have issues. Near impossible to set up new device. Searching - it appears I need to ditch IPv6 WLAN (so no IPv6 internet) so as to stop webpage / app connectivity issues, but keep enabled on LAN. How? Anyone?? From all the suggestions I've seen online disable IPv6 WLAN and enable LAN - but can't see way of doing on Orbi web interface. Otherwise suggestions as to set Firewall to block external IPv6 traffic - but again, not really a way of doing with Orbi. Anything I've seen suggesting settings / configurations on how to do this seem incompatible with the Orbi web interface. Or do I 'fudge' the settings - i.e. select something like 'auto config' or 'pass through', meaning the main Orbi unit won't be able to establish 'external' IPv6 connection as the settings are incorrect when plugged direct into the ONT box, but IPv6 will still be available on LAN? Although would this cause issues with the main Orbi unit constantly trying to connect? Any help / suggestions appreciated. Dave71Views0likes2CommentsHP Printer will not connect to new Orbi 870
I upgraded my network from a Wi-Fi 5 Orbi to an 870. After getting everything back online everything is working except for my HP wireless printer. I've tried normal DHCP and assigned DHCP. I also tried adding it to the guest and iot networks and both of those work. I think it has something to do with WPA security since I have to set the guest to WPA2-PSK only and not WPA2-PSK + WPA3-Personal. For the main network the only options are WPA2-PSK + WPA3-Personal and WPA3-Personal. My old route was set to WPA2-PSK [AES] and did not support WPA3. I have an old Wi-Fi extender on the network and I can DHCP though it. Connection to it is spotty since it is very far away so not preferred.31Views0likes3Comments871 reports disconnected Internet in error in conflict with Orbi App and actual operation
I have a 870 router with 1 satellite. Internet via Centurylink fiber (Orbi connected to ONT). Centurylink connection uses PPoE with VLAN 201 tagging. 871 is operating as router, not bridge mode (ONT is just a "dumb" device). Overall my 870 system works very well - good uptime, uses 160MHz channels, no issues on data performance. Every couple of months I wake up to find the 871 router showing pink light - disconnected Internet. Has happened 3 times in last 6-months. After investigating I find: Via the Orbi phone app - shows Internet WAN port as ok - shows the ISP assigned IP address and other parameters all find Via the Orbi web I/F - shows Internet as disconnected, no WAN IP address (0.0.0.0). I look at the log history and today (Feb 5th) only showed log entries mid-January Overall the Orbi system is working fine - 1Gbps speeds, all devices connected, no issues The overall problem is that the router LED and web I/F is reporting the wrong status, but Orbi App and actual operationare correct. Also the Orbi logging for some reason isn't working correctly. If I reboot the router, will fix the situation with Router/LED. Any suggestions on how to fix w/o need to reboot on every occurrence?243Views0likes9CommentsPériphériques Iot qui se connecte sur le routeur
I believe this behavior has been previously reported by others. I research before, re set up, etc. Decided it was a bug. I moved last summer from a stable orbi 850 setup to current 870, router and two satellites. The satellites are wired. (Seems wired backhaul maybe less supported?) If I reboot, I can see the attached device list. But after a day or so if I access the web interface and try to view attached devices, it gives a small spinning circle with “Please wait a moment”. This never goes away. Others in the house use the internet for work, so I cannot just reboot. And needing to reboot to get an attached device list does not seem reasonably. I have also had a lot more issues with devices not being found when they appear to be on the network. And devices that are found on iphone generic scan but not listed on the iphone orbi app device list. Printers that can be found some days and not others. Same printers worked reliably with the old 850 system. I had these issues last fall, was hoping for a firmware upgrade to fix, but none has arrived. Is this a known issue that is being worked on? I kind of wish Netgear had fewer models that worked more reliably. RossMost online devices not showing on on device list after router reboot
I did a reboot on my Orbi 870 system last night. Since doing this, on a few of my devices are showing on the connected device list on the router. I have around 30 devices connected to the system but only a handful are showing on the device list list the reboot. I have 3 satellites connected via wireless backhaul. All are showing a good connection. However all are showing IP's of 0.0.0.0. Has anyone come across this and have a solution?238Views0likes3CommentsAttached Devices list shows for about a day then is not available on web app for RBE871
Hi, The Attached Devices list shows for about a day then is not available on web app for RBE871. I do a reboot then the attached devices show again for about a day. Everything else works great - i get great internet all around/outside the house. Its just the attached device list issue- Thanks!571Views1like26CommentsOrbi 870 -and Disney+ problems
Hi, I replaced my Fritzboxes with an Orbi 870 Mesh and since then I have not been able to use Disney+: Internet via Vodafone VDSL Draytek Vigor 167 as modem (nothing configured, just plugged in and PPoE set in Orbi) I have not configured anything else in Orbi, no Armor etc. Disney apps iOS/tvOS give me an error #93 (access blocked, e.g. due to VPN (which is not the case)). Login via browser results in ‘Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later.’ I can start Disney without any problems on another Wi-Fi network or via mobile data. Someone here in the community wrote that you have to set iPV6 to DHCP, another said you should turn it off completely – I tried both without success. I'm at a dead end. Trying everything is beyond my patience (turn off, wait 2 minutes, start up the modem, wait, start up the router...). So I hope you have a tip for me. Best regards, HeikoSolved269Views0likes13Comments
