36 TopicsCannot Turn off Smart Connect!
Honestly, about ready to just be done with this RS500 router. Today, it decided to turn on Smart Connect all by itself....we suddenly could not find our network SSIDs. Logged in, found that Smart Connect was suddenly on, so all under one SSID. Which we do NOT want. To make matters worse, we cannot uncheck it! I have messed with it for the past 2 hours trying everything and it will not let me uncheck the box. Anyone ever have this happen before, and how do I fix it? Am I stuck with having to do a full factory reset and have to redo ALL of my settings all over again? This has been the worst router I have ever had. If anyone can help, please do because I am completely stuck. Tried the app, tried incognito windows, tried 3 different browsers, cleared page caches, you name it. I cannot uncheck the box. 1.2.7.2, no updates available. This is just crazy with this thing.182Views0likes20CommentsTwo Issues...Need Help Please!
Hi, I have been losing my mind with this two ongoing issues with my RS500....if people can help with either, much appreciated. My Echo Show 5 3rd Gen (Newest version) keeps freezing every day, usually in the same hour of 3pm. In fact, the past two days, it froze at 3:01pm each day. Amazon has been no help, just telling me to do a factory reset. I have told them that I have done so multiple times, have tried changing clock faces, unplugged, etc. They did say it could be connected to an issue with my router, but not WHAT exactly. Since it is the same hour, I thought maybe a lease issue, DHCP, etc. I also tried turning off IPV6, but same issue. Yesterday, I tried assigning it an IP address, hoping that would stop it from dropping, freezing...but nope, froze again today right at 3:01pm. I am at a complete loss and I know there are a million settings in the router but I do not know what else to try. I have also turned off the Protection engine, toggling that both ways, same for QoS. Can anyone suggest anything else? Oh, and I have tried having it on 2.4 and 5ghz. No change. Not sure if related, but lately my RDP connection has been horrible. I rdp into a laptop in another part of the house. The laptop is connected on wifi to an extender device, has always been fine until the past couple of weeks. Now it is slow to connect to the machine, and then keeps dropping. The wifi connection for the laptop is strong and the speedtests come back at about 200mbps. I have 1.5gbps into the house...my desktop tests at that all day, no problem, and the wifi on my phones on AX comes back at around 1gb speeds. But the RDP still is a mess. I have tried tuning down the color to 16bit, turned off most options, tried setting at 56k modem, etc. No change. I know I said two issues, but noting this in case related....my phone on wifi keeps having things like Twitter, Reddit stop updating. Like, if I click on a notification, it says cannot load. I toggle wifi and it all works again. I have set my DNS to various options like 1.1.1.1, 9.9.9.9, quad8, etc. As noted, tried turning off IPV6. Set to auto for most things, I have Xfinity and it supports DHCP, IPV6, etc. Not sure if everything is symptomatic of one issue. Hoping experts here can tell me something I have missed. Also posting in the Reddit community. Thanks103Views0likes9CommentsHave you seen this about Netgear RS Routers? Pretty interesting and maybe scary or even dangerous!
Supposedly there is a Backdoor to our Rs Series routers by sending magic packets? This makes me nervous as I work and live behind a RS700 in my house. It sounds pretty serious? Not sure why Netgear chose to hide the advanced wireless settings revealed through the F12 browser display link mod. I can confirm that only the MLO setting works in my RS500 router when toggled ON, but the speeds seem to be worse with the Intel BE200 laptop wifi card with MLO enabled on the 5 and 6 Ghz bands. I have set up my RS500 router with channel 44 and up to 5.8 Gbps speed in the 5 Ghz band. The router stays on 160 MHz bandwidth for a day or two before falling back to the 80 MHz bandwidth and never comes back up to the 160 MHz bandwidth unless rebooted. I do know that the router might fall back to 80 MHz bandwidth if any radar is detected nearby in the DFS channels. Isn't it supposed to get back up to the 160 MHz bandwidth if there's no more interference?1.2KViews0likes40Comments
