Per NetGear social media, we are supposed to suggest the below idea here. My idea, as crazy as it sounds, is that Netgear continue to support their R8000 devices. I know, sounds insane but hear me out. People spent hundreds of dollars on a product featuring the "latest tri-band wifi" technology. Now instead of leaving them hanging with a big security exploit for two months, device issues and a feature release stall, Netgear should develop a new robust firmware. Ideally it would be one that wouldn't encourage them to go out and try questionable 3rd party firmwares. That means, it should be competitive (feature wise) with those 3rd parties while fixing ongoing issues highlighted in the forums. Benefits: 1. Happy customers who don't feel like they wasted money and are not stranded with a reletively up to date tech, that lacks manufacture support, features and security. 2. See #1 above. I think it deserves reiteration. Facts 1. product saw less than 18 months of firmware releases and developer support. 2. Nearly 9 months have past since the last firmware update (as of 8/31/2016). 3. June 2016: security notice suggested disabling of features due to security exploit. 4. 2 month later, June 2016 security exploit is still unpatched, leaving customers exposed. 5. There are no Nighthawk products listed on the NetGear EoL page, including the R8000. 6. The product is still available through online and big-box retailers.125KViews7likes14CommentsNighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 Won't connect to internet
Hi - I just purchased a Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 and it won't connect to the internet. I have comcast Xfinity triple play, I have the Xfinity Modem/router combo. I have enabled bridge mode so it is no longer sending out a wifi signal. I have powered down the Xfinity Modem/router and reset it- when I connect to the modem via ethernet I am able to connect to the internet. I connected the Nighthawk to the Xfinity Modem/router and then powered it on. The power light, internet light, 2.4 ghz light, 5ghz, light all flash white. I can connect to the Nighthawks wifi signal, but it does not have internet connection. I tried connecting to the nighthawk via ethernet, and it does not have have an internet connection by ethernet either. I called comcast, they told me they couldn't help. How do I get the nighthawk to connect to the internet? I am not tech savvy and I need help!! thank you.Solved111KViews0likes6CommentsProblem setting up WNR614 as Wifi Repeater / Range Extender
Hi, I have a Wifi ADSL2+ Modem (Beetel 450tc1) which I use to connect to my computer. Recently I have purchased a new Netgear WNR614 Wifi Router and want to use as a range extender. I connected the netgear repeater to wifi modem with cable and another cable from netgear router to computer. It opened routerlogin.net at the start. In documentation it mentions that I should use same SSID, same channel, encryption method and same password in netgear router. As soon as I put the repeater on same channel, my computer stops opening routerlogin.net and it gives page not found error. Also when router starts it gives message that "To avoid a conflict with your Internet Service Provider, your router's IP address has been updated to 10.0.0.1". My modem IP address is 192.168.1.1. So when I try to change netgear router ip address to 192.168.1.2, it is giving me error "The ip address conflict with the WAN IP subnet. Please enter a different ip address. Invalid DHCP starting IP address". When I remove the Use Router as DHCP server, it gives me error - "The ip address conflict with the WAN IP subnet. Please enter a different ip address". When I try to enable "Enable Wireless Repeating Function", it gives me erorr - "The wireless repeating function cannot be used with Auto Channel". But when I change the Auto Channel to the same channel as of my modem (channel 1), my computer stops opening routerlogin.net and I can't access the netgear router config settings any more. The only option I left with is resetting the router. Please help me. ThanksSolved53KViews0likes17CommentsBest wired access point
I am setting up a new network in a home fully wired with Cat 6. I will be using a Netgear C7000-100NAS as the cable modem and wifi. However, the signal on the other side of the house is not as strong as I would like. I would like to find an access point to plug into the wired network on the other side of the house to provide strong comprehensive coverage, including the pool/patio area. All I can find are Netgear's prosafe line of APs, which are business class and probably overkill for me. Does any one have any suggestions? Other brands I should consider? Thanks.Solved24KViews0likes4CommentsWAC104 Unable to Control WiFI Channel BandWidth
I setup 4 WAC104 as Acces Points, and there are no settings available to limit channel Bandwidth in 2.4 and 5GHz spectrums. There is a compatibility setting which appears to give no control over BandWidth. The shopping Center is very congested and I would like to force SSID "VillageLife" to 20MHz (See attached Images). This should be a setting to make it more friendly in congested areas. Apple devices do not use 40MHz, only 20MHz. Am I missing something? I contacted Tech Support and they claim there is no setting to limit Bandwidth, and told me to post it here. Most WiFi AP units I have dealt with allow you to limit bandwidth, so I'm surprised to see there is no bandwidth setting, and therefore hard to recommend to other clients (we like the 4 LAN ports SWITCH, allowing us to hardwire local computers to Ethernet and not WiFi).23KViews1like2CommentsN600 C3700 Wifi Speeds Slow
I have an N600 C3700 cable modem/wifi router, and I am having trouble with the speed of my wifi connection. I have Comcast Blast 150Mbps service, and my wired connection typically gets 175-180Mbps (testing with both Speedtest.net and Xfinity's speed test site). However when on wifi I typically am getting 25-30Mbps on the 2.4GHz channel and maybe up to 50Mbps on the 5GHz channel. I’ve tried on two different android phones, two ipads, and a macbook air, and all have those same slow results over wifi. Tested when within about 3 feet of the router, all the way to 20 feet away. I have run the tests dozens of times over the past several days and those results are consistent. I have checked all the settings on the router and all appear to be per Netgear recommendations. I am using WPA2-PSK [AES] security and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are set to the “Up to 300 Mbps” mode (I understand I'm not going to get 150 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, but I think I should get it on the 5 GHz). There are no neighboring wifi signals on the channels I am using so it is not an interference issue, nor are there any other possible interference signals in my home that I am aware of. I have tried disabling the encryption and still get the same speed. This morning I did a factory reset and confirmed I’m on the latest firmware (v2.02.06) and I still have the same problem. Any guidance on how to increase the wifi speed?22KViews5likes16CommentsBest WiFi Signal Strength Analyzer App for iPhone 6 or Mac
I see there is a signal strength analyzer for Android, but cannot find one in the Apple App store. I just want to see if it is worth getting the N300 WiFi Range Extender, since the Master BedRoom (on the far side of the apartment from the C3000 modem/wireless router) has pretty good but not great service. Thanks!16KViews0likes1CommentWireless repeater function missing - now what do I do?
I just moved to a new place. The front and back of the apt are a fair distance from each other. The N750 router's in the back of the building, wifi is weak in the front. Stringing ethernet cable is not an option so so I planned to use a spare N600 as a repeater in the front If I'm reading forum posts correctly, the repeater function has been discontinued. Is this true? Why? More important, what do I do now to get decent wifi in the front of the house? Is setting up another cable modem connection a possibility? There is a Comcast cable in the front, can I set it up there? If so, can I use the same name? Any help on where to go from here is much appreciated.
Qualche consiglio? Grazie in anticipo. Luca13KViews0likes10Commentswifi to LAN bridge
I have recently moved from having a separate office to having one in my rented house. The internet is supplied by Sky through one of their modem/routers and it works...ish. My router is downstairs in the lounge and my office is now shoe-horned into a small upstairs bedroom and I have several devices in the office that are connected to each other via an Ethernet switch (which was fine in the old office where I had direct access to the router's LAN port). I now need to get the switch on the LAN reliably connected to the router. So far I have a mains-routed extender and this works okay but there is a fault with them in that they often lose the LAN connection. It is a known fault that I learned of AFTER buying them. I cannot run CAT5 from the office to the router and I cannot reposition the router. Somehow I need to bridge my office LAN, via WIFI to the Sky router. Buying a new router and associated bits is not out of the question but I have yet to ask Sky for the settings (their router came ready configured). Any suggestions? Steve.Solved
