Per NetGear social media, we are supposed to suggest the below idea here. My idea, as crazy as it sounds, is that Netgear continue to support their R8000 devices. I know, sounds insane but hear me out. People spent hundreds of dollars on a product featuring the "latest tri-band wifi" technology. Now instead of leaving them hanging with a big security exploit for two months, device issues and a feature release stall, Netgear should develop a new robust firmware. Ideally it would be one that wouldn't encourage them to go out and try questionable 3rd party firmwares. That means, it should be competitive (feature wise) with those 3rd parties while fixing ongoing issues highlighted in the forums. Benefits: 1. Happy customers who don't feel like they wasted money and are not stranded with a reletively up to date tech, that lacks manufacture support, features and security. 2. See #1 above. I think it deserves reiteration. Facts 1. product saw less than 18 months of firmware releases and developer support. 2. Nearly 9 months have past since the last firmware update (as of 8/31/2016). 3. June 2016: security notice suggested disabling of features due to security exploit. 4. 2 month later, June 2016 security exploit is still unpatched, leaving customers exposed. 5. There are no Nighthawk products listed on the NetGear EoL page, including the R8000. 6. The product is still available through online and big-box retailers.125KViews7likes14CommentsN600 C3700 Wifi Speeds Slow
I have an N600 C3700 cable modem/wifi router, and I am having trouble with the speed of my wifi connection. I have Comcast Blast 150Mbps service, and my wired connection typically gets 175-180Mbps (testing with both Speedtest.net and Xfinity's speed test site). However when on wifi I typically am getting 25-30Mbps on the 2.4GHz channel and maybe up to 50Mbps on the 5GHz channel. I’ve tried on two different android phones, two ipads, and a macbook air, and all have those same slow results over wifi. Tested when within about 3 feet of the router, all the way to 20 feet away. I have run the tests dozens of times over the past several days and those results are consistent. I have checked all the settings on the router and all appear to be per Netgear recommendations. I am using WPA2-PSK [AES] security and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are set to the “Up to 300 Mbps” mode (I understand I'm not going to get 150 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, but I think I should get it on the 5 GHz). There are no neighboring wifi signals on the channels I am using so it is not an interference issue, nor are there any other possible interference signals in my home that I am aware of. I have tried disabling the encryption and still get the same speed. This morning I did a factory reset and confirmed I’m on the latest firmware (v2.02.06) and I still have the same problem. Any guidance on how to increase the wifi speed?22KViews5likes16CommentsR8500 how to unlock wifi region
I've just unlocked a R8500 bought in US and now working in EU. You know that all the router wifi that are selled in US market have wifi region locked to United States or North America, but I've found a solution putting togheter ideas from community. You should connect not in wifi but wired to your router and for me have worked and if you try is at your risk if you are not sure stop youself. Step 1: You should enable Telnet on your R8500 and the solution is http://routerlogin.net/debug and you check as active the Telnet check box. Step 2: On you computer you have Telnet active, on Linux is by default on Windows 10 it's an add-on that you can activate from app / program installation Step 3: Assume you are now on Win10/8/7 you should activate command window with CMD Step 4: Activate at prompt the Telnet Step 5: The first Telnet command is "open" "IP address" of your R8500 and user and password as usual I've not tried routerlogin.net but I suppose that is working Step 6: at prompt command "burnsku" to check the actual configuration that should be "0x0001" Step 7: at prompt command "burnsku 0x0002" and you unlock the wifi region selection, you should give the "burnsku" to check the upadte a 0x0002 Step 8: Restart your R8500 and your Wifi region is now unlocked and you can choose your location.Solved8.5KViews2likes2CommentsUtilizzo D6000 come wifi extender
GrazieAre you going to compensate us for this non-availability of service? ? ( ORBI disconnections)
Hello, I bought an Orbi in the summer of 2017. (package 1 routeur / 1 satellite) until October 2017, I didn't have problems. But I made an update (my biggest error !) and since I have disconnections. (currently i have 2.1.2.18 firmware) I am no longer able to listen to music (Sonos) or watch Netflix. It has been 3 months now. I do not know what to do ! I understand the issue is with the Google product, If your product is not compatible with google products said it on the box. Are you going to compensate us for this non-availability of service? ? My job is to advise people for technological products. I am not in a position to recommend you product ... I am really disappointed because I find your product really interesting and well positioned Thank you JulienOrbi updated to V2.1.2.18
My orbi has been reliable until yesterday Jan 20, 2018. FIrmware is up to date and is V2.1.2.18 on both the RBR and two RBS satellites. I don't know whats going on but my router appears to be rebooting very often. My network is no longer stable and wifi is pretty much useless. I factory reset all three devices, was able to setup Orbi like new without any issues and within 15 minutes the wifi failed again and the router appears to go missing on the network. Running a continuous ping against the three Orbi devices I see dropped packets pretty often along with the router going missing followed by the satellites. When the router reappears the satellites will reconnect and function until the next time the router spontaneously reboots. Ugh, this used to work... been using Orbi for just over three months... apparently I am not alone.... What's the fix roll back to a specific version? If so which one? Frustrated in MD, looking for help.Orbi wifi disconnects/crashes caused by Google Home and Chromecasts OFFICIAL
Google has officially acknowledged this issue of wifi networks getting killed by way too frequent MDNS packets being sent from their devices that crash various routers. I will say that I switched to a Linksys after starting to have issues with Orbi late November, and have not had any more issues. I suppose the robustness of the router to handle such traffic comes into play. Google acknowledges wifi issues caused by Home and Cast devices.
Grazie, LucaSolved8KViews1like7Commentsmake it possible to go up one level in cli configuration of WNDAP620
it would be cool to be able to go up one level during cli configuration of said AP. Like in Ciscos IOS, if you are in "configure terminal" or in an "interface" you should be able to go up one config level to be able to choose a different configuration item. At the moment you're "stuck" in the lower level and need to reconnect (and relogin) to configure the AP further10KViews1like1Comment
