I have an N600 C3700 cable modem/wifi router, and I am having trouble with the speed of my wifi connection. I have Comcast Blast 150Mbps service, and my wired connection typically gets 175-180Mbps (testing with both Speedtest.net and Xfinity's speed test site). However when on wifi I typically am getting 25-30Mbps on the 2.4GHz channel and maybe up to 50Mbps on the 5GHz channel. I’ve tried on two different android phones, two ipads, and a macbook air, and all have those same slow results over wifi. Tested when within about 3 feet of the router, all the way to 20 feet away. I have run the tests dozens of times over the past several days and those results are consistent. I have checked all the settings on the router and all appear to be per Netgear recommendations. I am using WPA2-PSK [AES] security and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz are set to the “Up to 300 Mbps” mode (I understand I'm not going to get 150 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, but I think I should get it on the 5 GHz). There are no neighboring wifi signals on the channels I am using so it is not an interference issue, nor are there any other possible interference signals in my home that I am aware of. I have tried disabling the encryption and still get the same speed. This morning I did a factory reset and confirmed I’m on the latest firmware (v2.02.06) and I still have the same problem. Any guidance on how to increase the wifi speed?22KViews5likes16CommentsRandom issues with C6300
Hi all, I've been looking through the forums for answers to these questions, but nothing seems really applicable to these problems, so I guess I'll start with a bit of backstory: Recently our internet service was boosted to new, higher speeds from our ISP. The end result was that our old modem no longer suited our needs if we wanted access to the new speeds. We decided to upgrade to get access to those speeds, and so purchased the C6300 to ensure compatibility (checked with the ISP first, it is a suitable router for the plan we are on). The installation went fine, except for my ISP having to send a tech out to finish the install, since the modem was not showing up as active on their end [turned out that, after repeating them 3 times, they had incorrectly entered the MAC and Serial Numbers], but while he was here he checked everything. There are no splitters in the house, we have a solid connection running to the house and everything was in perfect order by the time he left (he also came back about five minutes later to make sure everything was still in top shape, since the ISP had contacted him to say they noticed a small hiccup on our end, everything was still fine). Then, a couple of hours later, we started having a couple of issues: -Speeds on my hardwired PC are fantastic, they actually sit a bit above the new max speeds we were told (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4695796276), but when connecting through WiFi everything feels sluggish, and speeds rarely top 25Mbps down / 2Mbps up. I've checked the settings over and over, but everything seems to be set correctly. The C6300 is in the exact same place as the previous modem/router used to be, and we had zero issues there. Am I overlooking something simple? For instance, would changing to a different channel help? -We also seem to be suffering from random disconnects, but they aren't really disconnects, more like momentary lapses. Randomly while using computers or laptops on WiFi or, more often, towards the later hours at night when using an Xbox One we'll get random "attempting to connect to server" messages for any game that attempts to connect to any online service, or we'll randomly get bumped to "Limited" internet access on computers. The hardwired PC remains perfectly fine, but everything else on WiFi seems to lapse, and it's only a momentary thing, not long-term, but it will happen more than once. -I'm also seeing this message popping up a lot when I check the logs: [DoS attack] AIF: Dropped INPUT packet: PROTO:2 SPT: DPT: 1 Saturday, 26 Sep 2015 07:22:41 224.0.0.1 10.128.64.1 I know it's not a legitimate DoS attack, but it seems strange that it continues to pop up like this routinely in the logs. Is this something I need to be concerned about? Any help in sorting this out would be greatly appreciated! :)Solved9.7KViews0likes11Commentsc6300 wifi randomly dropping
I have a c6300 that has been pretty solid since installed in August. In the last two week it has developed an issue where the wifi radios appear to randomly turn off (the 2g and 5g lights on the front of the router are out) and none of the three SSIDs that I have configured are visable/available (of course). Any wired connection does not appear to be impacted by this so it doesn't appear to be a issue from the router out to the internet. The only 'fix' for this is to reboot the router (not ideal) -- is there a more permanent way to address this issue? I have tried moving the wifi channel to one that NetGenie indicates is "BEST" or "BETTER" but the issue will typically reoccur within an hour or two.6.2KViews0likes11Commentsc6300 Wifi Not Working
Just had two power outages back to back. Upon 2nd recovery, the internet had stopped working. A quick plug pull and the modem came back up just fine, but now I have intermittent connectivity. Speedtests show DL speeds up to 75 Mbps and UL speeds towards 7 Mbps but the internet kicks out every minute or so. More importantly though, the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless are no longer working. Both lights are unlit and hitting the WiFi and WPS buttons do absolutely nothing. So far I've tried resetting with the actual reset button on the back, holding it for 60 seconds as recommended by chat support, unplugging everything for awhile then reinstalling, disabling the network adapter (PC ethernet) and re-enabling it and then also tried updates to the network adapter itself but there are none. Everything was working fine just up until the two power outages so now I'm wondering if this one is just completely shot. If so, I'd rather go back to Linksys/Cisco for an all in one cable modem/router option as this NetGear was the only one that was available at the time when I went to upgrade from an Arris Surfboard 6141.5.9KViews0likes3Comments+++++++++++ NETGEAR N450 Disconnects Once every hour on the dot - DHCP ISSUES +++++++++++++
Model: NETGEAR N450 (CG3000Dv2) N450 WiFi Cable Modem Router Firmware: V3.01.06 OS: Windows 7 Enviroment: Single Modem, no router, direct wired connection My n450 was working fine for a couple months but this past week it started having problems. Once an hour, every hour, on the dot within a few seconds the N450 will disconnect for about 5 seconds then reconnect. I can precisely predict when it will disconnect before it disconnects and like clockwork the N450 will disconnect. I am not running this on a wireless connection, I have no cable splitters, no router, just a direct connection from the modem to the PC. I have checked the cables from my computer to the modem and the cable from the modem to the wall, and even the crawl space behind the wall leading to the outside cable box, all cables are in perfect condition. I did some research and people are claiming that the issue is a 1 DHCP hour lease and that sounds EXACTLY like the problem I am having. I searched the N450 N450 CG3000Dv2 User Manual and on page 69 the instructions for modifying the DHCP state: ------------------------------------- Reserve an IP Address for DHCP Use To reserve an IP address for DHCP use, enter the DHCP server reservation settings for the private LAN under DHCP Reservation Lease Info in the LAN IP screen. To reserve an IP address for DHCP: 1.Type http://192.168.0.1 in the address field of your web browser. A login screen displays. 2.Enter the modem router user name and password. The default user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive. The modem router main menu displays. 3.In the main menu, under Advanced, select LAN IP. The LAN IP screen displays. 4.In the DHCP Reservation Lease Info section, enter the MAC address of the computer for which you want to reserve an IP address. 5.Enter the permanent IP address for the computer. 6.Click the Add button ----------------------------------- But literally on the third step these instructions stop working. There is no LAN IP button or link anywhere in the Advanced options. There are many threads on this issue for this specific modem with people claiming they are constantly getting disconnected. A common remedy people have suggested is to perform a factory reset so I did just that, but that also did not fix my problem. Here is a collection of threads that people posted with similar issues that I am having to hopefully prove this is not an isolated incident. Getting disconnected like this is incredibly frustrating as a gamer. Many of the games I play are senstive to disconnects and punish the player. For grandma browsing facebook a 1 hour DHCP timer would never be noticed. For me it's incredibly painful because not only do I get interupted once an hour, I have to sit out for 20-30 minutes to wait for the DHCP timer to expire before getting commited in a ranked match. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Cable-Modems-Routers/N450-disconnects-every-hour/td-p/1025699 https://community.netgear.com/t5/Cable-Modems-Routers/N450-WiFi-keeps-disconnecting/td-p/978900 https://community.netgear.com/t5/General-WiFi-Routers/DHCP-Lease-Length/td-p/466827 https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/Why-is-there-no-DHCP-Lease-settings-on-a-200-top-tear-router/m-p/1118769#U1118769 Please do not suggest returning the product, it's just insulting because I spent like 100$ to fix my internet problems by purchasing the n450, returning the product would mean 1 week+ with no internet and another 100$+ for another modem. Again I want to repeat what is so frustrating about this issue is that this router was working fine for months, and only a few days ago does this DHCP issue manifest.5.3KViews0likes19CommentsC6300 2.4GHz wifi radio stops working and requires reboot
I have a new c6300 that I bought and installed a few weeks back with firmware V2.01.14 and configured to only operate the 2.4GHz wifi radio, i.e. I have the 5.0GHz wifi radio unchecked/disabled in advanced | advanced setup | wireless settings because i only need/use the 2.4GHz wifi radio. What im finding is that every week or so, seemingly after making use of wifi network by my mobile devices to carry out mobile OS updates, that the 2.4GHz wifi radio stops working. By that i mean the SSID no longer shows up in available wifi networks on my laptops, tablets and phones and for those that are already configured with that wifi network ssid & password they are unable to connect. The only resolution Ive been able to arrive at is to visit the c6300s administration web UI advanced view and select the "reboot" option after which the 2.4GHz wifi radio starts showing up and working again for all my devices configured to use it. Does this sound like something others have also experienced b4 that has a known fix or a firmware update that addresses it? Does anyone have any optimization suggestions for setting up the router? I'm with Time Warner and because of the many devices we have connected in our home, we're getting low speeds even though we have 200mbps. I know we won't get close to this with wi-fi, but we can't watch tv without seeing the rebuffering circle every few minutes. Called Netgear and they want to charge a service fee for supporting their own equipment. Um, no...so, I'm reaching out to the community. Also, have a question about why my single network shows up as 5 when we look to change the internet channel because of interference. There could be no other network on a channel I switch to, then, poof! There's 5 all of a sudden. Why? Thanks!.4KViews0likes1Commentdevice does not have wifi signal c6300
I purchased the netgear c6300 wifi modem router combo, everything is installed and up to date, cable works just fine. the wifi works upon reboot for anywhere between 30 seconds to a couple hours but without a doubt fails. when i say it fails i mean that the modem still has every wifi setting turned on, enabled, lights are lit up, modem says that wifi is active, but there is no actual wifi signal appearing on any device, on either the 2.4 or 5g bands. I have already replaced the device once and continue to have the exact same issue. how can i make this a stable connection?3.8KViews0likes3CommentsTrying to find an answer regarding AC1750 model C6300 PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have an AC1750 C6300 router modem, I have been trying to find area coverage for the WiFi from this equipment, because I am moving into a 3 story house. There are no of us who all have some sort of electronic gadgets from cell phones, tablets, a laptop and 2 PCs & 2 TVTVS soon to be 3, so I need to find out what extenders may work best. Do I need 1 per floor because router will be on second floor of the house. Or what??? We also use Android items, Windows 7 & 10, Roku x 2 and I may be getting a Fire Stick as well, so after spending 3 days scouring the Web I have drawn a blank! I will be hooking up to Time Warner for internet. I sure hope someone can help me with this!3.8KViews0likes5CommentsNETGEAR AC1750 / C6300 wifi cable modem router LAN connectivity problems
