Per NetGear social media, we are supposed to suggest the below idea here. My idea, as crazy as it sounds, is that Netgear continue to support their R8000 devices. I know, sounds insane but hear me out. People spent hundreds of dollars on a product featuring the "latest tri-band wifi" technology. Now instead of leaving them hanging with a big security exploit for two months, device issues and a feature release stall, Netgear should develop a new robust firmware. Ideally it would be one that wouldn't encourage them to go out and try questionable 3rd party firmwares. That means, it should be competitive (feature wise) with those 3rd parties while fixing ongoing issues highlighted in the forums. Benefits: 1. Happy customers who don't feel like they wasted money and are not stranded with a reletively up to date tech, that lacks manufacture support, features and security. 2. See #1 above. I think it deserves reiteration. Facts 1. product saw less than 18 months of firmware releases and developer support. 2. Nearly 9 months have past since the last firmware update (as of 8/31/2016). 3. June 2016: security notice suggested disabling of features due to security exploit. 4. 2 month later, June 2016 security exploit is still unpatched, leaving customers exposed. 5. There are no Nighthawk products listed on the NetGear EoL page, including the R8000. 6. The product is still available through online and big-box retailers.125KViews7likes14CommentsPing spikes and packet loss on WiFi
Hi, I’m having trouble with my orbi router with online gaming over WiFi. For the rest it works extremely well with high speed (400 down 40 up) and very low pings (10ms), all on WiFi. However with online gaming I got ping spikes and packet loss which makes it impossible to game online over WiFi. Over Ethernet it works great so it’s not my ISP that is the issue. How can I solve the spikes? There is not QoS option available in the routers interface. I have tried switching the satellite off but the problem remains. Hope somebody can help! Thanks ChristiaanWNDR3400V3 - Wireless quit working completely
WNDR3400V3, been solid and working for a long time, Home environment, Win8.1. wifi working ok, updated firmware to 1.0.1.18_1.0.63, was at a very recent level, seemed to go ok, no other changes. All wifi devices fail to connect, no error msgs, devices connect to other networks. Both radio leds are lit on the router, recycled wifi anyway, no joy. Did a hard reset, no symptom changes, acts like wifi function died completely. Regressed to older firmware version, hard reset, showed update available, downloaded the firmware update again, update seemed ok, hard reset, still no wifi support at all, either radio. Any ideas? Acts like wifi simply gone. All visual indicators look good. My simply be hardware failure.SolvedR9000 - Can't turn off WiFi using hardware on/off button
I have a Netgear Night Hawk X10 R9000 I purchased a couple of months ago, and I’m having some issues with the Wi-Fi button on the front......the 2nd button from the right, next to the WPS button. When I press and hold down the button for two seconds, the button lights up along with the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and the four antennas......but here’s where it gets interesting. When I again press and hold down the WiFi button (2nd from the right), the button light goes out, the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and the antenna lights go out, BUT.....the WiFi is still active on both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands (I still have WiFi Internet!!). Consequently, how could I still have WiFi Internet if the lights on the antennas are off, and the 2.4 and 5GHz lights are off also? The only way I’ve found to turn off the WiFi is to turn off the SSID broadcast for both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands in the router setup, but this is a real pain. I’ve updated to the latest firmware, but still no fix. NOTE: I’m NOT using the WPS feature / button; whereas, I’ve never got it to sync to any of my WiFi devices. Any suggestions or fixes?Solved3.9KViews0likes4CommentsHardwire the EX7000 instead of wirelessly connecting to the router?
I’m going to try my best to explain my current situation as best as possible since I’m not entirely tech savvy or literate. My current situation is that there are devices that need to be hardwired but the devices are located in separate rooms. One device in my room and one in my brother’s. Now I know that I can use the EX7000 to wirelessly connect to my router and just use the Ethernet ports but doing that cuts down on download speeds. So I was wondering if I can use the Ethernet port in my room and plug the extender into that so I won’t have to wirelessly connect to the router? The current set up is that we have Frontier FiOS and the ONT box is located in our garage. Not sure what that means but the employee from BestBuy said it acts as the modem so that all the Ethernet ports our house can support a router without the need of an actual modem. So currently, all we currently have the Nighthawk X6 plugged into the Ethernet port in my brother’s room and is producing a Wifi signal with internet. We now both have desktops that have no Wifi adapters. So in order to use the internet on our computer we need to be wired. We used to share a room so it was never a problem since the router was in our room but now that we have our own rooms, he kept the router while I have no possible way of accessing internet via wired connection. Since we both game, we prefer a wired connection overall for the best performance. Hence the reason why we never purchased a Wifi adapter for our PC. While trying to look up a solution for my problem, I was constantly seeing answers like using the EX7000 as an access point. However, instructions say to plug it in to a router, which defeats my purpose of buying the extender in the first place since the extender would need to be located in my brother’s room. So long story short, can I hardwire the EX7000 using the Ethernet port in my room so that it can provide internet to my devices that need to be hardwired into the extender?7.1KViews0likes4CommentsEX6150 WiFi range extender drops connection for a few seconds very often.
I have the latest firmware. I'm located a floor above my router and use the EX6150 so that I can get a stronger connection in my room. I've noticed that every hour or so, the connection will drop for a few seconds and then reconnect. I used to own the EX6100 and I never had this problem before. Does anyone have any idea as to what is happening here and why this is happening with the new extender but not the old one? I know that it isn't the extender itself because I also own an EX6400 and the same issue occurs. Things I've tried: - Updated to the latest firmware. - Switched Wifi channels. - Removed devices from my network. - Moved the extender to be slightly closer to my router. - Reset the extender. - Reset the router. - Replaced the ethernet cable the extender connects to my PC with. - Replaced the power strip. I'm really at a loss.1.3KViews0likes1CommentAndroid/2.4-5 GHz switching potential fix
Good afternoon! For those having problems with Android/5 GHz devices dropping the wifi and picking it back up immediately, I have found a temporary solution. The problem with the LG G5 and Pixel was that it was switching between 2.4 and 5 GHz connections regularly. On the Orbi, you cannot separate the SSID's for each frequency so I just disabled the SSID on the 2.4 GHz network. I then chose "forget network" and reconnect my 5 GHz capable devices to the only SSID showing which was 5 GHz. All devices connected to 2.4 GHz stayed connected and the loss of signal quit happening. I suspect that the 2.4 seemed to be slightly stronger between walls so the strongest signal would vary between 2.4 and 5 GHz. Here is my configuration below. So far it has been up and running with no dropping or Orbi restarts for 18 hours. Firmware: 2.1.2 10 BetaAre you going to compensate us for this non-availability of service? ? ( ORBI disconnections)
Hello, I bought an Orbi in the summer of 2017. (package 1 routeur / 1 satellite) until October 2017, I didn't have problems. But I made an update (my biggest error !) and since I have disconnections. (currently i have 2.1.2.18 firmware) I am no longer able to listen to music (Sonos) or watch Netflix. It has been 3 months now. I do not know what to do ! I understand the issue is with the Google product, If your product is not compatible with google products said it on the box. Are you going to compensate us for this non-availability of service? ? My job is to advise people for technological products. I am not in a position to recommend you product ... I am really disappointed because I find your product really interesting and well positioned Thank you JulienR8500 how to unlock wifi region
I've just unlocked a R8500 bought in US and now working in EU. You know that all the router wifi that are selled in US market have wifi region locked to United States or North America, but I've found a solution putting togheter ideas from community. You should connect not in wifi but wired to your router and for me have worked and if you try is at your risk if you are not sure stop youself. Step 1: You should enable Telnet on your R8500 and the solution is http://routerlogin.net/debug and you check as active the Telnet check box. Step 2: On you computer you have Telnet active, on Linux is by default on Windows 10 it's an add-on that you can activate from app / program installation Step 3: Assume you are now on Win10/8/7 you should activate command window with CMD Step 4: Activate at prompt the Telnet Step 5: The first Telnet command is "open" "IP address" of your R8500 and user and password as usual I've not tried routerlogin.net but I suppose that is working Step 6: at prompt command "burnsku" to check the actual configuration that should be "0x0001" Step 7: at prompt command "burnsku 0x0002" and you unlock the wifi region selection, you should give the "burnsku" to check the upadte a 0x0002 Step 8: Restart your R8500 and your Wifi region is now unlocked and you can choose your location.Solved8.5KViews2likes2Comments
