New - Orbi RBR50 Router Firmware Version V2.7.2.104 Released
Security Fixes:
- Fixes security issues
This firmware addresses security vulnerabilities. For more information about security vulnerabilities, visit https://www.netgear.com/about/security.
Download Link:.
RBR50 - https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK50/RBR50-V2.7.2.104.zip
RBS50 - https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK50/RBS50-V2.7.2.104.zip
IF this doesn't appear in the RBRs FW upate web page as being available, you can manually install and apply:

https://kb.netgear.com/000037217/How-do-I-check-and-manually-upgrade-the-firmware-on-my-Orbi-satellite
Update the RBS first, then RBR lastly.
Let us know how it works for you.
Good Luck.
- I became aware of the latest firmware while browsing this forum. Neither the app nor the web interface indicated an available update. I downloaded the files via my computer and performed a manual update via the web interface -- one satellite first, then the other, then on to the router. (RBK50) In the past, I have had updates pushed out (only once); notices both on the web and app of firmware updates available; and updates that I found were released via this forum which I've manually installed (the latter seems to be the most frequent way I have updated firmware). Through all ways, I have never had the slightest issue with downloading and installing updated firmware.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
https://kb.netgear.com/31029/Where-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satelliteWhat channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Not seen on Orbi AX.
Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless SettingsTry disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).One User Experience/Configuration:

Just be aware that if you have a RBR50 and upgrade to 2.7.2.104 then you will lose the parental control feature for Circle.
I rolled back to 2.6.1.40 in order to enable the circle feature and setup the phone app. But then updating back to 2.7.2.104 it disappears again and the phone won't be able to find the circle. I had to rollback again to 2.6.1.40 and enable the feature yet again to restore the circle functionality. Looks like the newest firmware forgot to include it?

I think you have to apply v102 first:
https://kb.netgear.com/000062852/How-do-I-upgrade-from-Circle-to-NETGEAR-Smart-Parental-Controls
Then v104.
How I was able to maintain PC throught out each version.

Good day, does this firmware version resolve the issue with ethernet backhaul or is Firmware V2.5.1.16 still the latest to support this?
My Setup : Hitron ISP Router (Wifi Disabled) (1Gb/ 50Mb) > RBR50 (V2.5.1.16) > RBS50 (V2.5.1.16) (All connected through Ethernet Backhaul)

Only item you'll see is this with v104:

Updated the router and the two satellites to this firmware last night and now anything that connects to one of the satellites is unable to connect to sites outside the home network.
- Ha_Ku_NaLuminary
Power off the satellite for 1 min. Afterwards power on and check the state in the web admin GUI.
But be patient. This can take a few minutes.
- ktulaApprenticeI powered off the satellite but didn’t wait for a minute. I’ll try that later. While I was having the issue, the browser would only connect to orbilogin.com or routelogin.net but it was connecting to the satellite instead of the main router.

I have a RBR50, RBS50 on Router Firmware Version V2.7.2.104.
I also have RBS40V on Firmware Version: V2.6.2.4_1.0.1.
When devices connect to 2.4Ghz on RBS40V, devices stop working. When I switch off RBS40V, and when those devices connect to router or to the other satellite, those 2.4Ghz start working again.
Thanks

I would post about this over in the Orbi with Voice for the RBS40v:

Thank you.

The problem is V2.7.2.104.
- TmpoolejrAspirantI want to thanks the net gear team for releasing a dump firmware, especially during work from home season. Clearly DNS, time, complex fixes and crickets from the community leaders.
Thanks for screwing potentially millions of people from having a properly connected home.- smarttAspirant
So, you're basically saying you're smart enough to know what firmware is but not smart enough to not auto-update and let other people test it? Sounds about right.
- dwmacAspirantI couldn’t care less what other people do or test. The point of the community is to discuss experiences, issues, workarounds, and solutions. This was my experience and workaround. If it helps someone else then fine. Did you have anything to offer or just come here to run your mouth?

A note of caution:
My system does automatic updates and updated itself and my single satellite to this version. About the same time (can't prove it's the cause), our Galaxy smart phones began loosing their Internet connection. They were till connected to the Orbi, but not the Internet. The Orbi administration app on my phone showed the Orbi as being Offline. Rebooting the Orbi seemed to bring it back online, and bring back Internet to the phones.
Investigating the issue on my desktop, I found that even though the phones were showing the Orbi offline, it in fact was not. It appeared that the Orbi was online (logged into the admin site) and our Pc's, TV's and other devices were still connected to the Internet.
I've read that this issue is recognized by NetGear and they are working on a fix, but I can't find my way back to that link.
I would appreciate any additional feedback because I can't keep rebooting the Orbi several times every day, just to get my phones Internet access

Can you walk us through how your system did the auto update?

This is exactly the behavior I was seeing from RBR50 and RBS50. However, even after I did the firmware rollback to the previous firmware version I started experiencing the same issues again. It was fine for a about a week or 2 and then I started seeing the same symptoms that you described all over again. Orbi reported link to internet was down but all wired devices were working fine and had Internet access. All wireless devices were connected to wifi but no Internet access.
What I finally did this past week was to go ahead and upgrade to the latest firmware again and then I did a facorty reset on the router and satellite and started from scratch with a new install/setup. After the reset, most of the settings were reverted back to default like my IP addresses but not everything, including the firmware, it is still the latest. All of my devices were also still listed in the attached devices by the names I had given them before the reset. So apparently the factroy reset did not completely wipe everything out as one would think it would ( I did it multiple times per Netgear instructions ).
Anyway, it has been 5 days now and zero issues. Hopefully, it doesn't start happening again.

Be sure to make a backup configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
I preref to use the ERASE function on the RBR to to a factory reset. Factory resets will not change the FW version. Only user settings are cleared.

Since I updated to the latest firmware version, my ORBI keeps dropping the DNS connection. Two or three times a day. Any one else seeing these problems?
- ialexusmanAspirant
I agree that Orbi system needs to support hard wired ethernet backhaul. I have had so much trouble with my satellite that I have actually just turned it off. I see posts in which Netgear employees acknowledged the need for this feature.
