Orbi and Ring products issues
I recently switched from one router + repeater to the Orbi system. No installation problem.
When I first connected my Ring Doorbell and 2 Ring Spotlight cameras, no connection issues. One camera connected to the Router, while the Doorbell and the other camera connected to one satellite each. Motion was detected and reported. Live View worked. All was well.
Then I started to notice problems with Live View. If there was no motion detected for a while, then Live View would show a black screen (or could not connect). Motion would restore the Live View for 15-30 minutes. I checked the connected devices, and the Dorrbell and camera connected to the satellites would not show in the list. After motion they would show. The camera connected to the router would always be in the list and show Live View with no issue.
Testing further, I turned off the 2 satellites and brought one camera back on the house to be close enough to get a signal. Now all are connected to the Router and I have no Live View issue anymore.
Therefore it seems there is a problem when Ring products connect to a satellite. I tried all suggestions mentioned on this forum, no luck.
Anybody noticed the same issue? Any solution?

I had similar connection/drop out issues with my Ring devices. I surmised that it was due to the need for the Ring only being on the 2.4 band. I added a standard range extender and connected it to the touter at 2.4 only. no more issues here.
- Vern75AspirantFor those now not able to connect to ring doorbell to your Orbi— what worked for me was to purchase the “ring chime pro” it’s a WiFi extender ($50). It sucks I know but that’s the only way. The ring chime pro connected to Orbi and the doorbell connected to the chime pro.
- jmc262GuideDid anyone try turning off NAT filtering? Once I turned that off I’ve had no connection or notification issues.

How many of these devices do you have online at one time? Possible port routing issue. See this with two or more game consoles online at the same time needing same ports, NAT Filter set to Open helps for these configurations...

I had problems connecting two ring2 door bells to my Orbi satellite, I found on setting up the bells that they could find all my neighbours WiFi networks but not my own which was only 10feet away. The solution was to enable guest network on orby, this worked long enough for me to set up the door bells but the signal strength shown on the ring app was Rssi -65 and this was too weak to give a stable connection, I went in to router configuration and changed the wireless channel to 3 and enabled beam forming.
Now I have an Rssi on doorbell of -56 and all works well. Channel interference seems to be a problem with the Ring device

Can try this as well:

- I am having the exact same issue. I previously had a single traditional router, and had no issues with my Ring doorbell.
Now, with my Orbi system, Ring will only connect via live view if I retry several times, usually on the 3rd or 4th attempt it will connect. Other times I get a black screen or an error message. Note:This is ONLY when connected to the orbi satellite.
If I turn off the satellite, the ring live view works every single time. Thinking about returning now.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User

Edit: assigning a static IP? I can try that.

I have been having problems with Live View on my doorbell but it seems to work fine on the two cameras (Floodlight cameras) I have. I got a suggestions from one of the post on this thread to install the Ring Chime Pro and connect it to the doorbell. I did that and it cleared up my problems with Live View. The doorbell had a very strong signal to the ORBI satalite in my configuration but for some reason Live View would not work. It orginally worked when I first installed my ORBI but eventually it began to fail and then completely stopped working. It would still detect motion and record just fine but Live View would not work. After I installed the Ring Chime Pro everything is working great again. I only connected the doorbell to the Ring Chime Pro since the other cameras were working fine. I am guessing that that it got confused with the 2.4G and 5G networks using the same SSID. It was a cheap fix ($50) for a problem that I have been dealing with for several weeks. Give this a try before you take your ORBI back.

Some Smart or IoT device Mfrs are not properly testing out there setup mechanisms to ensure that there products work well on MESH systems with a single SSID. For devices that only support 2.4Ghz, they will not see 5Ghz ever. Its the setup software which maybe getting confused when the setup mobile device supports both 2.4Ghz and 5ghz and there software seems to expect the mobile device to be connected to a 2.4Ghz signal. It shouldn't have to as the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz singles are on the same WLAN network. The mfr seems to not fully test this out thus leading to customer confusion about Orbi not working well for some devices that only support 2.4Ghz. Orbi works and handles getting devices connected. It's up to the mfr and there software setup mechanism to better support having setup mobile devices connected to either frequency to get there devices installed.

Yup. This is why I separate my 2.4 and 5 network manually in the Orbi (through Busybox interface). I have 6 Ring cameras and even the Ring alarm and they all run on the 2.4Ghz except for the Doorbell Pro which works quite well on 5Ghz. I force all my other mobile devices to only connect on 5Ghz. 2 Orbi PROs and an Orbi Outdoor cover my entire house and backyard. I also do get actual 300-400Mbps while connected to an Orbi Pro satellite. On the main router unit itself, I can get 450Mbps easily as it doesn't have to go node hopping. Working great for me.

I borrowed an Amplifi HD set up and can confirm no issues with Ring for it. My cams all loaded within 3sec. Orbi just does not want to do Live View with the my battery powered Ring devices, the plug in ones seem fine.
- rmadilaoGuideYup. Same here. For battery powered, Ring devices, use a ring chime pro. It solves the Live View problem. For wired Ring devices, it works fine directly connected.

Having similar issues since I installed an Orbi router & satellite. Except my stick up cam stopped sending notifications & cloud recording motion. I could still live view but that was it.
I have a FIOS wireless gateway & re-enabled the 2.4 wifi on it (had disabled it & the 5.0 on the Fios so erverything ran on the Orbi system)... lo-n-behold, the Ring stick up cam now sends and records motion. Just adding my 2 cents, hoping someone knows of a workaround. My 2.4 signal sucks out where I wish to mount the stick up cams. Which was mainly my reason for wanting to go with the Orbi system!!!

Modem Combo Units will be a casue of double NAT and cause problems with another router such as the Orbi router connected it it:
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem leaving it in router mode and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Nothing to do with double NAT. The ring devices simply disconnect from the netgears after awhile. I had put mine on an old AP plugged into my Orbi sat to get it to stay online. Based the research I did at the time this is pretty common issue with Ring and Netgear routers.
As I mentionned a year ago now, moving to a different mesh manufacturer fixed all my issues. For the past year, no fiddling or anything like that, it just works, as it should be expected.
My new mesh has one unique SSID for router, satellite and 2.4 and 5. All Ring equipment connect to the 2.4 with no confusion.
At the end, is it a mix of issues between Orbi and Ring, making it not to work at its best, and such issue do not show on what I have? No idea, but as mentioned earlier, manufacturers should verify that their equipment works on mesh network, OR mention an incompatibility if the problem is not on their side (similar: I saw a manufacturer of wmart plugs specifying which mesh network were not compatible).

Agreed. :smileywink:

I’m having the same problem. So frustrated. Bought a Orbi to make Ring connectivity easier. Live view works only for a brief time after motion is detected.

Hi sadly for Ring battery powered products due to the way in which they work having a mesh network will not improve matters. Works well for pretty much everything else, although be aware that for Nest battery powered smoke alarms to get them to work you need to completely reset back to default factory settings before configuring with your Orbi network.
The only way you will really improve matters is getting a Ring Pro Chime and connecting the battery powered devices to your Ring network created by the Chime Pro. That way works great actually.
- Ring has issues with Wi-Fi bridge and repeaters. Live view rarely works over the bridge or when connected to a repeater device. Something about the protocol it uses. Ring denies it but I can reproduce the issue with multiple brands of devices.

I added an inexpensive Netgear WiFi router to the Ethernet port in the Orbi. It gave me a single 2.4 network that I put all the Ring products on. Probably not the most elegant solution, but it worked.
