Orbi firmware update v2.1.4.16 availability
We’ve been monitoring issues that some customers have experienced in OrbiOS 2.1.4. In response, we’re releasing firmware that provides a permanent fix for the homekit issue along with various other fixes. Please use the manual firmware upgrade process to apply to your Orbi.
Release note:
- Fixes issues with the Apple HomeKit connectivity
- Fixes the wireless crash and reboot issue when the router is under stress
- Fixes WiFi disconnection and IOT issues
- Fixes an issue where devices on the Guest Network are able to see (but not connect to) some devices on the main network
- Fixes an issue where device boot order caused devices connected over Ethernet Backhaul to connect wireless backhaul
- Updates the OpenVPN certificate from MD5 to SHA-256
Note:
CBR40 will be available later this month.
We look forward to hearing your feedback.

As my RBK50 router + 3 RBR50 Satellites keeps dropping connection (50+devices) in AP mode with last firmware 2.1.4.16 (hard reset router and all satellites) I finally give up on Orbi after one year of testing.
I ordered yesterday Linksys Velop 2x3 packs and hoping for the more stable product.

its on sale....https://9to5toys.com/2018/06/21/netgear-orbi-three-pack/
3 pack is 379.99 in costco.
Not too late to recommend to your worst enemy. :-)
Honestly though, returned mine in costco but I'll buy it again if ever they fix the code and I still have a need for it. it was fast when it works, for now the ac5300 is very stable and a used ac68u (refurb 70.00), has same coverage (with aimesh), its a little more complicated for the wife to operate but it is what it is

I got my friends new RBK50 system installed last weekend. Been stable and solid:

Well it seems I spoke too soon when I said that wired backhaul on 2.1.4.16 was surviving restarts.
As usual I have to restart every 2 days since upgrading to this firmware as the Orbi "loses" internet connection. So 2 days ago I had to reboot (using the app) expecting in a few minutes satellites would sync and everything would be ok. No such luck - my network went crazy. For close to an hour I had to be plugging out ethernet, rebooting, then plugging back in ethernet after 5 minutes. I eventually gave up and left it with wireless backhaul.
Today I dusted off my Nighthawk and set it up as router, and the Orbi is now in AP Mode. Since most persons here have had luck with the Orbi set up this way.
Hopefully this works for me as well.
- Is it just me? Both the RBR50 and RBS50 link is invalid file when I click. I tried other links and works but I need the 50. I am on a my iMac latest OS.

Also people can contact NG support and ask for RMAs if there units are not working right. :smileywink:
Good Luck.
Udpated to 2.1.4.16 fairly easily and no reported issues initially. Internet totally stopped working the next day so i don't know if they are connected. If I plugged right in to my modem internet worked so i knew it must be the orbi. Ended up having to to a factory reset plus setup of orbi via ethernet to get internet working again. It's been stable for the last day, so that's promising. However, I am seeing a significant drop in performance. If I run a speed test in a browser (via wifi) I'm getting 40 - 50 mbps, using the orbi app's speed test it is 150 mbps.

Try a different browser or PC. IF the app is working however not your browser, points to the PC your using.

Hi, oliveyang did you fix your problem? If not, try another factory reset. Yes it's a pain, but I have had good speeds since doing two resets a couple of months ago, per this thread: link.
- No changes since I posted. Thanks for the advice. Ill try a second reset.

After the update, I have been experiencing connectivity issues with one of the satellites that I have. The connection repeatedly is broken and reestablished. I was not having this problem until the upgrade was automatically installed on my network.

Was both router and satellites updated?
Besure to power OFF the router and satellites for 1 minuted the power ON the router, then one satallite at a time. Should come back online.
Try using manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2Ghz.
Any other wifi neighbors near by?

We’re both the router and satellites updated? No. Several days ago, after I had recycled everything, they were all upgraded. The problem that I am having is with the communication between the RB50 and one of my satellites. It was solid before the update.
Is there a procedure for hardwiring the satellite to the RB50?

Try swapping around satellites.
Only other couple of items, you might try a manual re-load of the satellite with the recent FW. Use IE11 or FF browser and re-load the FW, after the re-load, do a ERASE on it and set it up from scratch.
Might try a ERASE on the router as last resort...

The apple homekit issue seems to be resolved in this release, BUT the IPV6 problem is NOT resolved. Every couple of days, I have to turm off the IPV6 settings on Orbi and turn them on again. This does not happen in a system where I am just using the cable modem and no orbi...
I just had a situation where my HP Scan to email didn't work, it would lock up. Sure enough, the IPV6 was not working on orbi and it was trying to send email via that protocol.
I see my support cases have disappeared, so I can't give feedback on the exact case...but the iPV6 issue is not resolved at all.

- GorelashAspirantAfter the update, when i try running the internet speed test from the Netgear Orbi iOS app, the router crashes. Tried this several times, all with same result

Does the router crash if you run the speed test from the routers web page?
Try a full reboot of the router and satellite, if same thing happens, try a full ERASE on the router and set up from scratch then test.
Whats the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the Orbi is connected too?

Either i'm completely blind, or just dumb, but i can't seem to find the speedtest option in the web ui.
NM! i found it under QoS.
Seems to work fine from the web ui.
Did a full reboot of the entire network before the last test from iOS app.
Just got ny network up running again, after erase, seems to be working now :)
Thanks for the tips
