Netgear ProSafe Plus 24 port problem cable length - no signal
Hi,
I already have a ProSafe 16 port switch that works without any problems.
I recently bought a ProSafe 24 port switch (JGS524E v2) to use instead of an old D-link 10/100 Mb switch.
Since our school buildings are far from each other, the cable is about 100 meters long.
The D-link never failed us, but when I attach the ProSafe 24p, the leds never work. Sometimes it blinks once a minute. There is no signal on the switch. When I connect both switches with a shorter cable, it works fine.
Is there a max. length? The cable is Cat6 and is splitted in 3 parts with 2 wall-mounted connectors. I tried to change the cables (cat5e), but that didn't do the trick unfortunately.
Anyone got an idea?
Thank you very much.
Hi Ditrovic,
Welcome to our community! :)
The maximum allowed length of a Cat 6 cable is 100 meters or 328 feet. May I know if you tried to connect other switch on the same cable where the NETGEAR switch is connected?
Regards,
