GS605v5 - my wi-fi is working, but my computer's ethernet connection hasn't worked for days

My ISP is Spectrum.  My modem (and their tests) indicate that I'm getting service.

I have a Netgear switch that relays things to my Wi-Fi mesh system and to my PC.  I've never had trouble with it before.  But a few nights ago, the ethernet connection on my computer stopped working (so I had to switch to Wi-Fi, which is still working).  Since then I've contacted Spectrum, tried a few random tricks I found online to try to reset or diagnose the problem, etc...to no avail.

The light for my Wi-Fi port is blinking green.  The light for my ethernet cable (running to the PC) is solid green.

On my computer, it says "Unidentified Network - No Internet" for my ethernet connection.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.  Be forewarned - my "expertise" on these matters is completely non-existent.  So the simpler you can keep the explanations, the better it will help me!  Thanks so much.

  • Has a power OFF of the ISP modem, switch and wifi system for 1 minute then back ON been performed?

Can you remove the GS series switch and directly connect the wifi system to the ISP modem/router?

What brand and model# is the ISP modem and router and wifi system?

What CAT# LAN cable are you using? CAT6 is recommended.

    Hello StuckOnWiFi,

Welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂

Is the issue with the ethernet connection isolated to just your computer? Do you have other computers that you can connect to the ethernet port and check?

Thanks so much for your reply, and I'm sorry for not following up.

About an hour after I posted, I was able to get it working by switching around the way everything was connected.  I hadn't seen the notifications about replies and just noticed them today.

It honestly doesn't make any sense that it stopped working the other way...it had worked for a number of years...suddenly stopped...and then me making this seemingly pointless and redundant change fixed it?

But honestly, I'm happy with it as long as it's working.  However, I will absolutely take your recommendation on the cables.  A couple of them were only cat5 so I ordered new ones.

So how was it connected and how is it connected now that made it work again?

Ya CAT5 is only good up to 100Mbps. CAT5e or CAT6 is rated up to 1000Mbps which the switch supports.
