Netgear Genie will not work on my new Windows 10 machine. Closes immedieately
Hi, Just got a new HP Spectre 360. It installs and just as it is opening, a dialog box "Netgear Genie has stopped working. Aproblems caused the program to stop working correctly. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it.
Same problem. I just installed it on my windows 7 machine. No problem. Is this a compatability issues. I do have Mcafee virus scan. I have no idea if this is the problem or how I would change it to give permission to run Genie.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I also tried to close and restart the computer. That didn't help.

PS,
I just downloaded the program today from the netgear website that was listed as the "solution" to the problem. This must be the latest version of this program.

Hi utschy,
We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused you. Rest assured, we are working on a fix. Just to make sure, you may use the download link below for the previous version (2.4.12) of the NETGEAR Genie program.

I have a similar issue not update provided for windows 10 a pathetic response. There should have been an immediate update provided for a major product release like Windows. Next time I will be more careful to buy a product with decent support

Hi owl1000,
We are looking into this situation since not all Windows 10 devices are affected. Considering that Windows 10 is a fairly new release, there are plenty of under the hood updates that are continuously being pushed out that may not play well with some programs. Installing the previous of NETGEAR Genie is a temporary work around for now. If you have not installed it yet, you can use the download link below.

Hi @Fastercat,
If your computer is using Windows 10 and is getting an error message, you may follow the steps below.
1. Uninstall the NETGEAR Genie program from the computer/device.
2. Download the previous version (2.4.12) of the NETGEAR Genie.
Download link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz-pjmQaYmk6Vk92eE81a20xRjg/view?usp=sharing
3. Install the program and check if it functions correctly.
4. Locate the drivers folder under C:\Program Files\NETGEAR Genie\bin and copy it to the desktop.
5. Download and install the latest version of NETGEAR Genie again using the download link below.
http://netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie/aspx
6. Look for the same folder under the same location and delete the folder.
7. Replace the folder with the folder that you pasted on the desktop from the working version of NETGEAR Genie.
8. Close the NETGEAR Genie program through the system tray.
9. Re-open the NETGEAR Genie program and check if it works.

Upgraded from Windows 8.1 and the Genie continues to work just fine. Now on the Windows 10 Preview version, nothing from Netgear works. None of the adapter software genies.

Hi @VietVetF4Drvr,
1. Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers for the adapter?
2. Device drivers are tested to work on stable/public builds and not on preview/insider builds.
