R6400 Router 2.4ghz not working, but 5ghz is fine

Purchased Router and installed Dec 2016.  Has worked fine until 3 weeks ago when 2.4ghz kept dropping internet.  I have reset the router, rebooted, restored to factory default settings, tested my modem and internet provider.  All is working fine but the router will show no internet for 2.4ghz.  I have several devices that will only work with 2.4ghz and I am very frustrated.  I have tried to backdate the firmware (currently using v. 1.0.1.20) to an earlier version but the web service automatically updates the firmware back to version 20.  The netgear genie app will not access the router update and routerlogin.net gives an error so I have to do it via http://192.168.1.1.

Is there a solution to this problem?  I have not been able to find one that works from the netgear community.  Also have tried to call Netgear and was on hold for two hours, then they disconnected.

Please help...

  • Exact same problem.  Had the router for about a year and no problems. Yesteday the 2.4ghz stopped working.  While doing my own initial trouble shooting, I updated the firmware (hoping that was the issue) to 1.0.1.20 and that didn't fix it.  All of my devices can see it (mac, pc, iPhone, XBox, HP printer), but not connect (won't resolve an IP address).  All of the 5ghz capable devices work just fine on the 5ghz network.  I've read most of R7000 thread and have done the factory resets, manually entered all settings again, used the reset button on the back, used the WiFi button on top, tried the guest 2.4ghz network (didn't work), dropped the speed to 54Mbps, tried all the manual channels, tried using no security encryption.  NOTHING WORKS.

Hi.  I am having the same issue and have to reconnect my smart TV almost every day.

  • I am having the same issue.  I can get on the 5.GHZ network, but the 2.4 will not connect at all.  I have only had the router since December 2016 and it just started to fail yesterday on the 2.4 GHz side.  Any device that attempts to connect to the 2.4Ghz network.  I upgraded to the latest Firmare the .22 version then factory reset and that didn't work. Downgraded to the .20 version after the initial release and that factory reset and that didn't work either.  I am at a loss and neet help with this issue.  I expect way more from Netgear.  Please help me if you can or can offer any other assistance.

      Hi Ron3184,

      1. Does the issue persist on all your devices that can connect to the 2.4GHz?

      2. Have you tried changing the wireless channel?

      3. Are your devices able to connect to the network but are unable to go online or they won't connect at all?

      Regards,

    2. Ok have. It was on auto and ran a Wi-Fi scanner and am on channel 10. No one is using that channel in the surrounding area
    3. They don't even connect to the network. When I first reset it. It connected to the network, but couldn't connect to the internet after setting configurations and reboot(laptop)
  • Hi,

I have the R6400 firmware v 1.0.1.24 and I have the same issue. 2.4 not working anymore, can see network but cannot connect. Worked fine until about 2 weeks ago, have tried rebooting and changing channels so far. The guest network doesn't work either, 5g is fine,

    Please help!

    Thanks

    Max

      Macks,

Same thing happened to me.  First for the 2.4 GHZ network just deactivate the password and see if your devices connect.  If that works then factory reset the router.  Reprogram it w/ all your settings again and then see if it connects.  Netgear had me do that worked for me and all devices are connected back to the 2.4 GHz network.  I then updated the firmware as well and haven't had an issue in over 2 weeks.
