Serial number is already registered in our system.

I just purchased a new factory sealed, in-the-box R6300v2 router and when I attempt to register it, the message states "This Serial number has already been registered in our system by a support representative." The purchase was via (cerified by) Amazon Prime. How is it that this serial number is already registered?

  • so, looking at my products on my netgear account, I see the router listed with the s/n I have been trying to enter. Not sure who/why/when/how the product was registered but it sure didn't seem like it was registered while I did the initial installation, but perhaps it was. nonetheless, it is assigned to me and all support options are avaiable. this discussion can be closed.

    Someone entered wrong serial number?

Not too helpful. The s/n I entered is what came up automatically after connecting and I verified it. I would like to connect with someone at Netgear to get an answer as to why a factory-sealed product is having this issue.

  • Hi,
I have recently purchased a D7000 through Amazon warehouse. I get the same message "Serial number is already registered in our system" when I try to register it to my account.
Is there a solution about it?
    Thanks in advance.

A word of warning to all:

"New (other)", "Refurbished", "Re-certified", etc, etc, products on e-bay, Amazon marketplace, Wal-Mart marketplace, Newegg marketplace, Craigslist etc, are USED products.  They will usually not have any registration capability or warranty, despite what the sellers claims.

      Caveat Emptor!

  • I just purchased a ReadyNAS device previously owned and would like to register it under my profile, but when I try to do it the system reports it has already been registered.

How can I transfer the registration to my name?

    Thanks,

  • Just bought a used N300 router on Amazon that's been registered by someone else..
