There is an issue where hidden networks are automatically enabled in AP mode
I use codex to analyze the source code
The firmware uses several overlapping state systems, including the NETGEAR config database, Broadcom NVRAM, temporary files, and hardware partitions. Features depend on multiple settings such as:
ap_mode
i_opmode
modetect_state
mesh_support
mesh_created
When these values become inconsistent, unexpected behaviour occurs.
Confirmed Issues
- AP mode automatically enables hidden 5GHz and 6GHz Mesh backhaul networks even when no satellite is configured.
- The device can report conflicting states:
i_opmode=apmode
modetect_state=Router
mesh_support=1
- /etc/init.d/br-mode uses $CONIFG instead of $CONFIG, breaking the intended AP-mode check.
- Bridge-mode startup and shutdown use different state files:
/tmp/enable_br_mode
/tmp/br_mode_enable

NG is aware of this item. Hidden SSID network will be remove upon next FW update.

Was believed at some point the NG would introduce MESH features to the RS series. I believe this was side lined and was no longer being worked on.
Are you seeing this hidden network coming from your unit?

Based on AI code analysis, RS600, RS700, and RS500 all have this issue, My RS600 has this problem, and other people's RS500s also have this issue.

My RS600 has this problem
Is this creating an operational problem for you?
The backhaul network is using the same radios as client network, and no one should be able to join it.
