#18312455 - Ultra 4 Plus, disc dead but yet its not...
I am constantly fighting my Ultra 4 Plus. At least every two weeks I get an alert that one of the discs is dead (it is always random which disc it is). I have all 4 bays full with the same Seagate Barracuda XT drives. I have to turn off the NAS, pull the dead disc, boot up the NAS, slide in the disc and then it resyncs itself again. Not once has the drive really been bad, I have done this (no joke) at least 50 times since by purchase.
Anything I can do to stop this? I love everything else about this NAS.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you tested the drives using SeaTools?
- evan2NETGEAR ExpertWhich version is the RAIDiator on your Ultra 4 plus? Do you enable disk spin down?
- OneFast440AspirantI normally use 4.2.19, which is where most of the false dead drives occurred. I am now on 4.2.20-T42 and also had one happen on here. I do not use the disk spin down.
I have not used SeaTools because I do not have a desktop computer that I can attached the drive to. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlease run the "Disk Test" boot option from the Boot Menu (see the FAQ: http://www.ReadyNAS.com/kb/FAQ)
Then open an Online tech support (http://www.ReadyNAS.com/support) case then attach your logs zip file (Status > Logs > Download all logs) - OneFast440AspirantDone
