Dead NV+
I have 5 NV+, and 2 ReadyNAS Pro. One of the NV+ is completely dead, won't turn on. How do I go about diagnosing it? Dead PSU? I am in Hong Kong. Thanks.

- de_niroGuideYou might be right,I guess you need create RMA process for dead PSU,but first you may need to contact support center to confirm the problem.
- WSLamAspirantThanks. In the meantime, I have a spare NV+ Chassis. Can I simply plug the discs from the dead NV+ into this spare chassis?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredProvided disks are fine, yes: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another
Is your spare chassis running the same firmware as the dead NV+? If not, I would use a spare disk to update the firmware on the spare unit to at least as new as what was on the dead unit. - WSLamAspirantThanks.
I am not sure about the FW... looks like either way it is quite a hassle...
I think I will try to use the PSU from one of my other NV+, try it with the dead one, and see if it works, to verify whether the PSU is the real prob.
Is it easy to buy a spare PSU? - WSLamAspirantIs there a service manual for ReadyNAS diff models?
- PapaBear1ApprenticeThere is no service manual available for consumers. There were some posts a while back on replacing the PSU int the NV/NV+. Basically, your turn it off, removed the drives noting the bay in which each drive was installed. Then remove the 4 screws holding the side panels in place and slide each panel about 3/8" to the rear and remove to the side. You then remove the 4 screws holding the back plane with the cooling fan in place and remove it. Then unplug the cooling fan, noting the connector for the fan power. Then you can removed the four screws holding the PSU/bottom panel in place. One of the screws should be covered by a sticker stating that removing that screw will void the warranty. Then the old PSU can be moved to the rear and the power plug disconnected. The PSU can then be completely removed. The replacement is just the reverse.
The only reason to remove the top panel is to access the memory slot.
It will be far easier to remove the four drives, noting which bay in which they are installed. Then install a spare drive in the spare chassis, connect it and install the firmware (takes about 15 mintues), upgrade the FW (another 15 minutes), the power down, remove the spare drive, install the four drives from the bad chassis (keeping them in the same respective bays) and power up. - WSLamAspirantThank you! I managed to figure out how to remove the PSU and did it correctly. But thank you for link. Using a multimeter, I think I have concluded that the PSU is indeed dead. Where can I buy a new one?
- PapaBear1ApprenticeI don't know about overseas. The Netgear Store carries them, I don't know about international transactions and shipping. Another opportunity is Amazon, but again, this is the US site, and I don't know if they do international transactions and shipping. If Amazon has a web site for your area, you might search the site for the PSU.
Also, depending on the age of your NV+, it might still be under warranty as mentioned before. In the interim, you could put the drives in your spare chassis as previously mentioned. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhen did you purchase your NV+?
Is the serial in this range?: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10259
