Disks for NV+ V2?.. More disks needed on comp list...
Which one of these drives do you guys suggest? The WD drive has more cache...
The prices are the same, so money is not a factor.
What is important is speed and reliability!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHD204UI as it is on the Hard Disk HCL
Is the NV+ v2 (RND4000-200) a new NAS purchase you've made? It was released for sale beginning Nov 13th 2011. - JarleHAspirantWow that was a fast reply :D
Both the disks are on the HD comp list for the NV+ V2...
The store got it listed as RND4000-200EUS.
jarle - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWD20EARS != WD20EURS
They are two different disks. - JarleHAspirantehhh I am not sure what list you are looking at, but to me it looks clear:
From the HD comp list for the NV+ V2:
Western Digital WD AV-GP WD20EURS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB No 3
From the webshop:
Western Digital AV-GP 2TBSATA 2.0, 1 million hours MTBF, 64MB, 4.5W, 24x7 reliability, Whisper quiet - WD20EURS
I am not sure where you have the WD20EARS disk from :D
Comp list I am using: http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=82 -> NV+ V2
jarle - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOops. I missed that. You're right.
Both are good choices as they're on the compatibility list.
There may be a small difference in speed depending on which disk you use, but not very much between two 5400RPM disks. - JarleHAspirantHave there been alot of reporting of problems with ReadyNAS and so called 'green power' disks?..
I am a little sceptical about these types of disks. The Samsung disk is labeled 'Eco green', the WD disk has the letters GP (green power?).
jarle - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere have been problems with some green disks e.g. some WD ones, but I believe the main issue was addressed via a firmware update.
Personally I'm not a fan of Green drives. A tiny amount of power savings of lower performance, and can have trouble with use in RAID arrays.
The Hitachi drives are also worth looking at. - Personally, I would go with the HD204UI drives. I have around 16 of them in my NASs and they all have performed flawlessly. Like y'all, I'm not a fan of the "green" drives either but these Samsung drives work well.
So far no reallocated sectors either (knock on wood). - JarleHAspirantWell this just got a little more complicated;
Samsung and Hitatchi do no longer produce mechanical HDs. WD bought Samsung's, Seagate bought Hitatchi's mechanical HD lines.
The Samsung and Hitatchi disks are running out of stock here in Norway.
I do not know if WD/Seagate are just gonna relabel the disks, or cut them out and release new models.
Netgear need to start certify more WD and Seagate disks because of this, we will soon run out of options on disks to get (several of the certified disks are also old models)...
jarle - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredActually WD bought Hitachi and SeaGate bought Samsung mechanical hard drive division.
Where have you read about them discontinuing those hard drives? Looking at a page the web it seems it could take a period of about 12 months for SeaGate to stop using the Samsung brand name for hard drives.
Edit: Should have said SeaGate bought Samsung hard drive division. They of course didn't buy the entire company.
