Migrate broken Duo data to Ultra 2 (or just make it work aga
Hello,
My Duo seam to have seezed - at least it is not booting up. I have not yet tried to factory reset the unit yet because it will erase the data.
I am willing to buy a ne Ultra 2 cabinet, but how do I migrate my data - since it is different processors just moving the disk will not work?
Since my old unit is broken i cannot make any network transfer. There must be a way to do this more than buying an identical cabinet ( Irather upgraade when I am making the investment...)
What I will tryis to remove the disks from the cabinet and perform the factory reset with a new empty disk. If that works, will the RAIDing system make everything work if I then put in one of the disks containg data? If so, that pretty much will solve the problem...
Any tips or advice is very much apprechiated....

- PapaBear1ApprenticeWhat are the symptoms of the Duo. When it is off, and you press the power button, what actions occur? Do any lights come on or does it try to start booting and just stops. Do you get any lights flashing in a repetitive manner?

Just wanted to add that moving the disk will not work.Blabert wrote: I am willing to buy a ne Ultra 2 cabinet, but how do I migrate my data - since it is different processors just moving the disk will not work? - BlabertAspirantPapaBear,
The blue light in the power button keeps on flashing forever - nothing more happens. I have measured the power cord to 12 V too.
There must be a way to read the disks on a Windows PC allthogh they are not formated for it... - PapaBear1ApprenticeAre any of the disk lights on?
I would recommend that you open an on line Tech Support case. Once you have the case number, edit the first post in this discussion and append the case number to the subject line.
The disks are formatted in Linux Ext format which in not natively readable on a Windows machine. There are applications that can make it readable. Of course the best option is to get the Duo functional again. Then you can copy the data over across the network. In the meantime you can pull the drives (noting which bay each was in and tagging the drives that way. I use small stickers on my drives to track them) and test them on your PC using the vendors tools. To test the drives, connect them to an SATA port on the motherboard of a desktop. If necessary, use the power and signal cables from the DVD drive on a temporary basis. - BlabertAspirantHello,
I will open a case.
I recall both disk lights was steady on while the blue one was flashing. I don't remember how they use to be normally, but don't they indicate that the disk is present when just shining steady?
What about my idea to do the factory reset with a new disk? Would that mean that the cabinet will not recognize the old disks any longer? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired

Yes.Blabert wrote:

If you power down, remove all disks (label order) and insert a new disk and do a factory reset the new disk will be wiped and firmware installed on the disk. If this works fine, this indicates that the flash is fine.
If you want to go back to the old disks you would need to power down, remove all disks and put the old disks back in the same order as before.
