Netgear ReadyNas rnd 4000 stuck booting #26234791

Dear all
I was wondering if anyone can help!? Basically I have a readynas stuck booting! If I remove any of the disks (doesn't matter which one) the device will boot and I get my IP address displayed on the front but no access to any of the data on the drives (four of them) .... I have not lost the original order of the disks and they were setup in an X raid config! Two disks show 931 bm free but two of them show 0mb free! I have tried contacting netgear support but as I didn't buy from an authorised reseller have refused to help (even though I offered to pay) .... It is imperative I don't lose the data as the drives contain photos of a recently bereaved family member! Can anyone advise?! Have I lost the data?!
You help time and effort would be truly appreciated
Lee

    Hello Lpilkington75,

    Welcome to the community!

May I ask if this is ReadyNAS NV+ v1 or v2? Also, what is the current firmware?

When removing disks, please make sure to always put the disk to the same bay where you removed it from, the disk order is very important. We are not sure yet if it still has data, if you can access the FrontView, get to Volume then Volume Settings. This will show the disks and RAID configuration, please post here the screenshot.

    Regards,

  • Not sure what version the NAS Drive is but going based on the following website www.rnasguide.com it looks like the NAS Drive is V1. On the back of the device it only says RND4000 and on the front ReadyNas NV+.

You could try a 3rd party data recovery service that does data recovery for Linux Software RAID. Note this can be quite expensive and may ultimately be unsuccessful.

Using X-RAID one of the disks (usually disk 4) is the dedicated parity disk. It has no partition table on it. It may appear to be blank, but it isn't.

Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

I didn't receive that email. Perhaps you could PM me a link to the zip file instead?

DIsk 3 is bad. There could be another bad disk as well. Doesn't look good.

  • If i replace disk 3 should the RAID automatically build the missing data on the new Disk 3

      Hello Lpilkington75,

It should, but as mdgm mentioned there could be another bad disk so that might not be a good idea. You might need to get data recovery service.
