ReadyNAS NV+ Unresponsive
My ReadyNAS NV+ has recently become unresponsive and no longer allows connections to Frontview or any of the shares. I am at a loss for what to try next, and I'm wondering if it is possible to save my data.
A bit of background: The ReadyNAS NV+ is loaded with four 2TB drives in X-RAID configuration, and I replaced the power supply in 2011. The problem appeared randomly, without any unusual activity or symptoms from the ReadyNAS. I simply turned on my laptop one evening and the share drive did not connect. The LCD shows the IP address, and all four drive LEDs are lit. I tried powering the unit off, but holding the power button does not initiate a shutdown or have any other effect. I powered off the unit by removing the power cable, waited for a a few minutes and plugged the power cable back in. The power button does turn the unit on.
During the boot sequence, I was able to ping the unit with no problem, and it initiated a disk scan because of the hard shutdown. During this time, Frontview was not available. Once the disk scan was complete, I was still not able to access Frontview, or connect to the share. I could ping the unit for about a day, but now it does not respond (even though the front panel LCD shows the IP address). The power button is still unresponsive.
I opened a trouble ticket, but received a quick response that I should call for support, and the ticket was closed. The Gearhead phone support information doesn't mention ReadyNAS products at all, so I'm hesitant to call and spend $40 for phone support.
Can anyone offer advice, or point me towards a thread that might help?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt sounds like it might be a full OS partition.
Do you have ssh installed? - coulstonAspirantNo, unfortunately I don't have SSH installed.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI'd try an OS reinstall first. The procedure is on page 24 here: http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... 6Dec11.pdf
Be careful not to do the factory reset, as that will delete your data.
An OS reinstall should preserve all data. The network config is changed to use dhcp, and the admin password will be reset (in your case to netgear1). Other settings should be preserved. - coulstonAspirantDo you think I should remove the drives before doing the OS reinstall to prevent data loss, or leave them plugged in?

The OS is installed on the disks, so you have to leave them in.coulston wrote: Do you think I should remove the drives before doing the OS reinstall to prevent data loss, or leave them plugged in? - coulstonAspirantI tried the OS reinstall, and it completed with no apparent issues. When it was done, the ReadyNAS began a FS check. After about an hour, I looked at it again, and the front panel reads "KERNEL PANIC".
Any idea what to try next? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou could try booting up again, skipping the fs check.
Though this is not a good sign. - vandermerweMasterPower down, remove each disk in turn and check it using vendor tools. Replace before turning nas on.
If you verify that all of the disks are perfect, you should also do a memory test.
Do you have a a backup?
As StephenB has mentioned, a full OS partition is a possibility but will need someone to access the unit in tech support mode.
