ReadyNAS nv+ V4 RND 4000 (DISKLESS) #24176805
Hi,
I am in need for some advice. Mt NAS drive failed due to a power cut. The unit will power up and will not boot (the led on the backup button flashes fast). I am hopeful that I will get a replacement unit from Netgear but is there any way I can extract the data from the two WD Red 2tb drives? What software do I need and I am assuming that as it was set up as x raid (I think) I will need to plug both drives to a computer.
Thanks,
Nick.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSo this is the NV+ with a charcoal chassis and an external PSU?
If so the boot menu for your device is here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21104
If not, please note that the boot menu procedure is different.
Can you access the boot menu? If so can you try an OS re-install? - mdgm,
Yes charcoal in colour with an external PSU. I cannot access the boot menu at all. - vandermerweMaster1. You can mount the array on a linux system.
2. If you are going to buy a new readynas, I believe Netgear may be able to help you to migrate your data onto the new system.
Of course if Netgear give you a new Nv+, you can put the drives into the new unit - ensuring that you first set it up with new firmware.
Edit: I see you have another thread open relating to this and received the same advice, you cannot just put the disks in and you will lose data if you do. Contact Netgear and follow their advice. - HELP.
As you see from the above my NAS Drive is dead and I did not make a backup of the data (family movies / pictures of my children from birth / school documents / work etc). A lesson now understood. I've been on to Netgear support and as the NV+ V2 is now discontinued it seems that I will not be able to get a replacement.
Is there anyone in the west midlands area (UK) who would be willing to allow me to insert my disks into their NAS drive (NV+ V2) so that I can make a copy of the data on an external drive?
Data recovery may be outside my expertise.
Really need someone help here.
Nick. - A duo v2 would also work, since you only have 2 drive.
Another option is to try to mount one of the disks in a PC with linux boot disk. Someone from Netgear can probably get you the mounting commands (they are published for the v1, but perhaps not for the v2). - StephenB,
Are you certain that a duo V2 would work? How can I check?
Nick - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you power the NAS off and remove your disks can you get to the boot menu?
Yes, a Duo v2 would work. You need to make sure it is a v2 not a v1. This can get confusing due to labels with v2 on some v1 units. See http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/ for how to tell the difference.
The procedure for mounting an array from a 5.x system using a x86 Linux machine should be straightforward. What RAID level were you using? X-RAID? JBOD? RAID-1? Something else?
If you were to get a new ReadyNAS e.g. a RN102 or RN104 then assuming your disks and array are fine that could be used to try to get your data back. You would need to carefully follow advice as to what to do and in what order and have somewhere to backup your data.
Personally I think using a new ReadyNAS would be a better option than getting a Duo/NV+ v2 at this point. - vandermerweMasterOP has already got himself a 314 and has been told this (to ask Netgear for assistance) in another thread; and earlier in this thread I made the same suggestion.
Nik Nandhra, have you contacted Netgear about migrating you disks to the 314?
Did you buy it new? - vandermerwe,
yes. I and chatting with netgear and I have just found that out, he is looking into it. I have found a 2nd hand nv+ v2 on ebay and place a bid! - vandermerweMasterDon't place a bid - you'll probably regret it.
Try the Netgear option first.
