Why can't I use 2TB in my ReadyNAS Duo?
I tried to expand my NAS box disk capacity, the model number printed on box showed ReadyNAS Duo RND2110 V2. I thought it was a ReadyNAS Duo V2 so I purchased 2 3TB disks (Seagate ST3000DM001) according to the list of supported harddrives..
anyway, I have the latest firmware (4.1.10), according to the firmware release notes, it supports up to 2TB, but I can only have 742 GB allocated. I have tried everything I can, like doing factory reset. still no luck. Can someone help? I don't want to return the disks I bought, if I can managed to have 2TB raid 1.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYour disks are using GPT partitioning. You need to reformat them using MBR partitioning or wipe the partition table off the disks.
- max2012AspirantThanks, but this didn't seem to work. here is what i did, I attached an USB adapter to the disk, reformat it in win7 using MBR partitioning(instead of GPT, now I can only have 1 primary partition of 2TB with NTFS). re-insert the disk, it would show a "corrupt root" error so I did a factory reset (holding reset for 30 secs while powering up).
but after all this, it still show up 742 GB allocated, any idea? I also tried wiping out the partition table (w/o reformatting). - max2012Aspiranthttp://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=57255
It this right? nothing I can do to make it 2TB? if so, this really sucks. I can see from this forum that I am not the only one confused by the labeling (i.e. thinking ReadyNAS Duo RND2110 V2 is a Duo V2). - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI think I misread your post. 3TB disks aren't supported and will be only recognised as having 746GB of capacity. 2TB disks will work though.
He does have 3 TB disks (ST3000DM001). I think he wants to try and partition them manually so the NAS will see a 2 TB drive.mdgm wrote: I think I misread your post. 3TB disks aren't supported and will be only recognised as having 746GB of capacity. 2TB disks will work though. - elodahlAspirantwow, i just confirmed my 2 3TB drives won't work...no support :(
are we sure 2TB will work, i would like to konw for sure before i spend more money on unusable drives - 2 TB will work. I have two ST32000542AS in my duo V1.
I suggest avoiding the ST2000DM001 - at least search the forum before purchasing it. I'd go with the WDC WD20EFRX myself.
