#19436397 5.3.6 ARM-Unable to use ReadyNAS remote
Hi
Duo V2
Since upgrading to 5.3.6 users have been unable to access log into the NAS via ReadyNAS remote.
I get "ReadyNAS Remote Online - Andy Asker" but it never actually connects to the server itself using "Connect to ReadyNAS"
In Radiator ReadyNAS remote is marked as "Internet Connection" and "Online".
-Checked Readynas Remote is enabled
-Removed/Readded Accounts.
-Created new ReadyNAS remote Account
-Disabled Router/OS firewall
-Reinstalled latest client
-Removed latest client 1.6.5.18, full clean up with CCleaner, reinstalled 1.6.5.18
-Tried without encryption
-Tried on Mac
-Rebooted ReadyNAS Box twice.
-Rebooted pc several times.
-FTP access working fine.
Same problem, cannot access shares. Help!
Thanks
Andy

- andyaskGuideSome more points to add to my original post....
-Although I got it working with Port Forwarding, it yet again fell over within an hour. I then carried out yet another reboot after changing the port to 6050 after which it was once again fine. 12 hours later it is still working, taking around 1 minute to log into the server using readynas remote and eventually display the new remote pop-up "Netgear is online".
-I did suffer problems with the new firmware embedded menu not displaying correctly at one point - the section opened with the Flash icon rotating but nothing appeared. Fixed with reboot. I estimate 3 reboots are needed for 5.3.6, all with the volume scan enabled.
-Rozel - Don't worry about port forwarding. It is quick to set up and a lot easier than I thought it would be.
-System/Settings for me are in this order:
Security
Remote Access
Readydrop
Power
Update
Backup
Alerts
Performance
-Would recommend switching on notifications in the Remote software , properties-advanced.
-I can't get ReadyDrop to work , I like the concept and want it to work. with a newly created Readynas user I get error "ReadyDrop is no available" [sic] Aside from the annoying grammar (how on earth did that get past testing!?) there is no visible evidence that my ReadyDrop folder is syncing with my ReadyNAS and even it was , I wouldn't be able to prove it! Where does it sit on the Readynas and how do I review the supposedly Sync'd content? I do see a newly created netgear folder in my Readydrop folder , have no idea what it's for but assume it is Readydrop related.
Andy - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredContact cap1. He can fix your system.
The ReadyDROP folder on your NAS is the hidden ".readydrop" folder on your C volume.
If you login to CIFS as "admin" you can see the C share.
Also if you login to readydrop.netgear.com the data shown there is on your NAS. All the data in your ReadyDROP is shown on the NAS and if it's shown on your Mac/PC too then syncing is working.
Here's a video demonstration of the new ReadyDROP feature: - bhw752kAspirantThanks, cap1.
Refreshing the page bypassing browser cache solved the problem. "Remote Access" and "ReadyDROP" options are now both in the System > Settings screen. I think it would be nice if this firmware update had been a bit more idiot [eg myself] proof. - rozelAspirantOk guys another day and I have slept well and not so grizzly as I was yesterday :)
Nevertheless I do not seem to be getting anywhere.
1. I have now uninstalled the Remote Add-On and then going into Dashboard (System/Settings) it reveals two icons each with a switch - ReadyNas Remote and ReadyDrop. ReadyNas Remote can be switched on but if you refresh the page it goes back to the off position. The ReadyDrop icon does not allow me to turn it on. When I switch on ReadyNas Remote, nothing appears underneath - perhaps it should show some way to manage your ReadyNas Remote Users? as otherwise how do we "Allow" "Remove" and "Add" new/existing Users?
2. When the ReadyNas Remote icon is in the "On" position, my ReadyNas Remote App will not connect to my ReadyNas Server on my Android phone. Furthermore my PC's (windows) ReadyNas Remote app will allow me to login but it refuses to show that my server is online, supported by the fact that I cannot acess my ReadyNas shares via this method. This being the case, I daresay my 3 users cannot either.
3. There is something fundmentally wrong here - I assume, as I have already said, that there should be an option to manage my ReadyNas Remote Users, there is not. When I turn on ReadyNas Remote, it should stay on. Me thinks whilst I can turn it on, in reality it isn't turning on.
4. What is ReadyNas Drop? Should this be enabled? I haven't a clue what this is about and wonder if it is part of the ReadyNas Remote functionality?
5. Perhaps someone can suggest what to do here as I daresay my problems will be replicated by others and it would be good to have a solution posted in this forum. I assume however that when you say "IM" you mean send a "Private Message"? I will PM cap1 if all else fails.
Thank you - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired1. It should however it seems your Remote install is messed up.
2. I think in the Mobile apps the list of Remote NASes caches the list so even NAS units that are offline will appear
3. Not turning on due to a messed up configuration
4. Take a look at the YouTube video embedded in my post above. In it Jeff explains ReadyDROP. It's a new feature that relies on ReadyNAS Remote. You can choose whether or not you wish to use it.
5. Yes, send him a PM. If enough users have the same problem (note while multiple users may think they have the same problem in reality the problems can be quite different) and it's verified as an issue with the firmware then it would be addressed in a firmware update. - rozelAspirantThanks mdgm - I decided to download the firmware and re-install. This did the trick as I can see all the functionality now in Dashboard/Configuration/System/Settings :) I have entered all the relevant email addresses - although could not see where and if they needed to be "allowed". I searched for them and they are now all in the Access List. I searched for two others, which have not sorted themselves out yet, and invited them to be a User - so I have 5 users entered in this List with their respective Usernames and 2 others to whom I have sent an invitation. All these Usernames appear in the Security section of my ReadyNas exactly the same -So far so good.
OK I cannot still login using the PC app on my desktop. It allows me to login to ReadyNas Remote but the server isn't coming online. I daresay that is the problem using the app on my mobile (android) too as that refuses to connect to my shares.
So what now please? - rozelAspirantNo it is hopeless - I am spending far too much time on this - please tell me somebody, where I can find the previous firmware 5.3.5 as I wish to revert back to something that works. This update has been ill conceived and for people too technical for me - please direct me to the 5.3.5 imahe please

- akammingAspirantI had the same issues after the firmware upgrade. Symptons vague
- sometimes no remote settings in raidiator
- sometimes they were visible, but no matter how hard i tried turning remote or readydrop on. After a refresh of me explorer age remote sometimes returned to diabled
- often both readydrop and remote did not work (nas unreachable)
I did a manual reinstall of the firmware and then an os reinstall boot menu. Now everything works fine.
Only 1 remaining issue. From the android app only anonymous access is working. I did not try this before the firmware upgrade. So i don't know if this is related. Does anyone know how to solve? - andyaskGuideReadynas Remote now settled and working solidly in 5.3.6 but still unable to get ReadyDrop working!
-Readydrop configured under services pointing to C:\Users\Andy\Documents\guitar
-If I right click my readynas icon in the system tray , I click on "Open ReadyDrop" > "Netgear" and I get a ReadyDrop icon on the desktop with pop-up message "Readydrop is no available"
-Right clicking this new icon I see "Recently changed files" - message is "none" - nothing is listed,
-If I log into https://readydrop.netgear.com I see nothing has synchronised, blank page.
Any ideas anyone? How do I get this to work??
Andy
