Can't create backup job involving USB drive on 6.2.3/6.2.4
Some have run into an unfortunate bug in the 6.2.3/6.2.4 releases of ReadyNAS OS regarding backup jobs involving a USB device.

Attempting to configure a backup job from or to a USB device will lead to being unable to continue in the job creation.
Clicking the "Next" button will not continue.
As a work around, please configure a false job from one share to another.
This will allow you to click the "Next" button and proceed through the job creation wizard.
Then click the "Back" button.
Reconfigure the job with the USB device.
Click "Finish" to confirm the job settings.
The backup job has successfully been created.

- iconkateAspirantthis worked for me
- Cliff_MIGuideIt also worked for me
- LeofwineTutorI have the same problem.
At first, I thought it might be something to do with another issue I have regarding a backup to USB in that I get error reports saying that the backup job has failed because the destination is read only yet the job has actually been completed.

It only started a few days ago and has been running successfully for several months. I checked the backup job settings but could not see anything obviously wrong so I tried to create a new backup job to test if it had anything to do with the job settings that I could not see but got this problem.
As the jobs are being completed, I don't really want to interfere too much so I won't use the workaround for now. - dotcompeteAspirantThis is a work around but hopefully gets fixed by Netgear. I also have the same issue I have regarding a backup to USB in that I get error reports saying that the backup job has failed because the destination is read only, when USB drives are changed over.
The USB backup job fails and will only run if I delete the current backup job and create a new one, then I can start a USB backup which will continue to run as scheduled daily until I swap USB drives, a real pain! Any suggestions? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhich filesystem are you using on your USB disks?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo you safely unmount the USB disks before unplugging them from the NAS?
- LeofwineTutorI moved the contents of the destination folder to another folder, then deleted the destination folder.
Then, probably crucially, I created a new destination folder (with identical name and location, obviously) using the ReadyNAS web interface.
After that, the errors stopped. However, since then, I have backed up the whole USB drive and reformatted it, again using the ReadyNAS web interface - my assumption being that whatever privileges are required, they will established by the device creating them, if that makes any sense.dotcompete wrote: The USB backup job fails and will only run if I delete the current backup job and create a new one, then I can start a USB backup which will continue to run as scheduled daily until I swap USB drives, a real pain! Any suggestions? - dotcompeteAspirantI am not sure if the USB drives are safely being unmounted as this NAS is one of my clients and as far as I know they have just unplugged them and swapped the drives daily on the previous NAS which was a Duo for the past 3 yrs with out an issue?

If you wish to remove a USB storage device, you should follow the safe removal procedure of first unmounting before removing the USB device. If these steps are not followed then you may develop errors on the file system on the USB device.
