Can't print using ReadyNAS duo
I just purchased a ReadyNAS Duo and I'm having trouble using the print server. I am using windows XP SP2 on both my desktop and laptop and have an HP Officejet G55. Connecting and discovering the printer to the ReadyNAS was no problem. I used the apple Bonjour application on the desktop and laptop and they discovered the printer no problem but I am unable to print anything to the printer. I can see the print jobs in the readyNAS print queue and then go away as if the print job was successful. Is there anything that I am missing?

- AgeStorAspirantIn our office, all desktop computes had no problem printing, just the laptops.
When we browse for the printer location and click it, instead of typing the IP address manually, it works for these desktop computers (XP Pro SP2) but not the laptop (Also XP Pro SP2).
Following mapofe's German walk-through, it now also works on the laptop.
Seems to me the laptop has some kind of DNS problem and it needs to refer to the printer by IP address as oppose to the name of the Share drive.
If you can't read German, here's the low-down.
Remove the printer from your computer (not from the ReadyNAS).
Log into Front View and click Printer > Printer Queue Service and take note of the printer name. For our Brother 5410 it was HL_5140_seri
Now go to Settings > Printers & faxes in Windows > START and add a printer. Choose network printer but don't browse for one. In the bottom URL input field, you type:
http://192.168.1.99::631/printers/HL_5140_seri
That's assuming your ReadyNAS is on 192.168.1.99
By adding the port and location in a URL rather than server path it seems to avoid these DNS issues. - Macca1602AspirantThanks for the previous post. It has helped me print from my Vista computer that is wired to my Linksys WRT54GXv2 router. The issue I have now is that when I attempt to use the same instruction for my netbook (XP) which is connecting wirelessly, I just keep receiving the message that is it unable to connect whether I use the local hostname or the IP of the local host. I've managed to ping the NAS itself using the IP address but not the local hostname. From within the router I'm configured it so the UPNP is enabled and I can see the NAS link for Frontview but that is as far it goes. I do think think this is some configuration problem with the router in terms of the wireless setting but I've looked through this setting and nothing is jumping out at me. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Macca - boatheadAspirantOk,
I am still having the same problem except that now I'm using Win 7 Pro 64bit instead of XP. I followed the instructions in AgeStor's post, and added it to the network through he ReadyNAS ,setup port 631 on my router. The print queue window comes up and none of the print jobs are listed. The printer doesn't respond at all.
any ideas?
this is really irritating, as the printing from the network functionality was a major factor in purchasing the Duo.

This guy seems to have found a solution.

I can get it to work by installing the driver locally then moving the printer to the nas drive and reinstalling the driver. I works great until I turn off the printer... then it will never reconnect.. I have to do this all over again.. Remove the driver reinstall it locally, then move over the printer and reinstall the network component.... What gives.. I have an epson printer that I also have connected that I have no issues with..
- iejunAspiranthad the same issue's....added printer ...next day ...no connection
what i did is gave the ip4 option in Interface of my nas a static ip within range of the dhcp server....went to the network printer through my network browser....added the shared printer...next day....still printing.
my oppinion is that it could be that when your nas server receives a new ip address ...you lose your shared printer.
hope it solves some problems - russgreenAspirantI've tried this setup with an HP Photosmart B109 plugged into my Duo but windows printer trouble shooter reports the printer cannot be contacted over the network. The URL used for the port brings up the status page of the print queue and everything seems to be online.
