What did the email you received say?
Well you could power down, remove the disk, hook it up to your PC and test it using WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.

This is the email, with the serial hidden
Disk test failed on disk in channel 2, model WDC_WD20EARX-00PASB0, serial WD-WMAXXXXX4736.
I'd like to try other alternatives before running tests on HDD with the NAS with no redundancy or backup availables.

What other alternatives? It seems to me that the only thing to do is to confirm if disk 2 is truly dead [or not].
Though it would be wise to make a backup.

But could the disk be dead? I would expect more bells and whistles for that to happen. My understanding is that there is a problem that could affect the performance of the disk, like to be able to recover 100% of the data in case it is needed. Am I right?
