Nov 22, 2012netgear nv+ a sata reset has occured
I've a Netgear NV+ with 4 western digital (caviar green) 2tb harddisks . I've bought this in 2010. It always worked fine, till last week.I had to reboot the system a few time. (the netgear was not approachable ) I got the message a sata reset has occurred. I rebooted the system. All seemed to work fine, and a resync took place. Then after a day the same problem again. I had to reboot the system. But now the disk on channel 4 was marked dead. I took it out and put in a new (also wd caviar green) disk. The channel 4 stays dead. (So the disk is not the problem) How often a put out and in the disk on channel 4, reboot the system, the channel stays dead.
Now my question:
Is there a way to reactivate channel 4 without a system reset?
Or do a sata reset myself? (I hope that maybe channel 4 can be used again)

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think you should open an on-line support case.
Did you insert the new disk with the system running?
BTW, if you buy more new disks for your NAS I'd recommend getting the new WD red drives instead of the green. - Anonymous

What is the disadvantage for the red drives?
Now i have updated the firmware with a new image. Now the resync takes place of the disk on channel 4.
I hope that this will solve the problem, without a reset of the nas. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
The red drives are specifically designed for NAS, the green drives are not. The red drives have less vibration, and elimination of NAS-unfriendly features (like aggressive head parking).reuvekej wrote: StephenB wrote: What is the disadvantage for the red drives?
From a support point of view, both Western Digital and Netgear agree that the red drives work in ReadyNas. That isn't the case for WDC green drives. - Anonymous

If i had known, i had bought the red drives. I thought that the green drives where consuming less energie. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe red drives are also pretty energy efficient (they have the same IntelliPower disk rotation stuff as the green drives).
You might check with your seller, you should at least be able to exchange the new one. - AnonymousMy machine is up and running again. The firmware update did the trick (4.1.10). I don't have reset my nas to the factory defaults.
But what caused the channel 4 to become dead i'm not sure.
I've put the harddisk out and in when the nas was running (should not have caused trouble)
Or maybe a resync took place when i put the disk out and in? (I thought i checked it in raidar, and at the moment there was no resync)
