NV+ Power Supply goes up in flames, now what?
The power supply incl. the motherboard are gone, looks like the disks (2) are not damaged.
What's the best and cost-efficient way to retrieve the data?
No warranty left.
Cheers.

- PapaBear1ApprenticeWow, it actually caught fire and burned the MB?
If it got the MB, the disks may be damaged, as the MB is on top. The board in back right above the PSU is the back plane. Before you do anything else, I would download the vendor tools for your drives. Then run the tests to determine that the drives are still ok.
The next step depends on whether you want to stay with a sparc based unit or not. The easiest way is if you do, then you have a choice of Duo or NV+. Keep in mind that the Duo does not have the LCD display on the front as you are accustomed to. If you wish to upgrade to a faster Ultra/Pro series, then data recovery is more difficult. - infini_raidAspirantassuming the drives are ok, could I simply swap my drives from nvplus.burnt to nvplus.new?
- yes. make sure nvplus.new have up to date firmware before you input disk in and boot with it.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeWhen did you purchase your NV+?
Does it say Netgear on the front door?
It it has Netgear on the front door then the original warranty was either 5 years or 3 years depending on purchase date. - infini_raidAspirantit's an "infrant", if I'd be Netgear I'd issue a massive recall notice on all of these boxes, reading through the forum, the PSU problem seems rather common and it'll only be question of time until someone's office/house will go up in flames, not good for PR
- PapaBear1ApprenticeI'm not sure how many boxes are still using that original fanless PSU (my NV+ purchased in June, 2007 is one). I have heard of many failures, usually quiet loss of power, but some have popped capacitors. Yours is the first I heard of burning up. However, I think I may go ahead and change mine out with the spare I bought earlier this year. Mine has not failed, but the newer version is visually obviously more robust.
- infini_raidAspirantI bought a new nv+, swapped the drives into the new one, boot up was fine but now the display says C:0 2TB Free, don't tell I've just lost all my data,
is there a way to recover the data somehow? - infini_raidAspirantI also performed a resync, but the shares /media /backup etc. are all gone...
- PapaBear1ApprenticeDid you ever run the vendor tests on the drives to check them?
- infini_raidAspirantno, where can I get them, they are seagate drives
