pro business failing to completely boot (case #16683604)

This morning my Pro Business fell off the network (as it often does, which is totally annoying but a problem for a different thread.)

Generally when this happens I press the button on the front twice to shut it down, wait for all the disks to completely spin down, then boot it up again. I did that procedure this morning as I headed out to work, and when I got home I discovered it was still down. the front display said it was "booting" but I don't think that takes 10 hours. I rebooted it again, saw it come up. It briefly flashed that it was checking the file system then just landed on the "Booting" where it has sat for another couple hours.

This is making me pretty nervous. It responds to pings but neither the webinterface or ssh are up yet. What can I do?

  • I suggest you do OS reinstall from boot menu then see what will happen,if the problem persists, contact support center would be only way out to solve the problem.
  • It reported an error extracting the image. I suspect the root partition got filled with some log (squeezebox/center/logitech server, whatever it's called this week.) I put it in tech support mode, but I'm assuming only an actual tech support person knows the password to log in. I can create a tunnel through my firewall to it and provide that info to a tech support person if one contacts me.

I would suggest you open a tech support case (http://www.readynas.com/support). Edit the thread title (i.e. subject of the first post in the thread) to include your case number. The case will need to be escalated to L3, I think.

Unless you are running very old firmware, or are behind a corporate firewall/proxy that blocks it, a secure tunnel connection should be automatically established meaning that there's no need for port forwarding.
