Hello everyone,I´m almost going crazy with my ReadyNas Duo! Since August I´m trying fix the following problem (with the help of Netgear support), unfortunately without any success! I had a Windows Vista Home Premium System running, using RAIDar 4.1.5 and RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043]. The ReadyNAS Duo was connected to my 24-port Switch (Linksys SR2024) and I had Twonkey Media 4.4.17 running on it. First I tried to copy some files from my local harddisc to one of the shares (Media) on my NAS, which worked fine until I tried to copy some avi files. I figured out, that it works fine when I switch off Twonkey, so that problem was solved quite quick. But it went really bad -> I tried to use Micrsoft´s Synctoy V2.1 to synchronize my MP3 Collection on the local harddisc with the Share (Media\Music) on the NAS. To make it short -> It never worked. Unfortunatelly the error message was somehow different every time, but the general message was that there were some problems to connect to the NAS. I contacted the Netgear Hotline and they gave me lots of worthless answers (such as a description of what SyncToy is !?) and finally they said that it works fine when they try it on their system and there has to be a problem with my Vista installation. Well, I considered that as a possible reason and for Windows 7 just came out I decided to setup my computer with it. I did a "format C:" and installed Windows 7 Professional. Additionally I resetted the Nas to factory setting. To make sure that Twonkey is not the one to blame I did not install it. And guess what happened when I tried to synchronize the NAS and my MP3 collection with SyncToy this time.... Same shit, different day :-( Does anybody have the same problems or have any experience on this topic? I´m almost going nuts! Maybe you can also tell me a good alternative for Synctoy, which might work. So in fact it is both - a backup of my files on the PC and a centralization of my media to access the shared folder with my multimedia devices.

Previous versions of Synctoy (2.0) were found to cause data corruption when working with NAS devices:

Please note that there are known issues when using SyncToy 2.0 with a Home NAS. When using a NAS, there is a chance of file corruption. This issue will be fixed in an upcoming release. Unfortunately there are no known workarounds for this issue with SyncToy 2.0.

I realize that you're using 2.1 now (which apparently fixes the issue), but I'm wondering if there's some sort of previous version or related issue causing grief.

What is it that you're trying to do:

- backup your media collection
- keep it synced between PC and NAS
- keep it synced between multiple PCs and NAS
- just keep it all centralized on the NAS and let each device access the shared media folder

There are a number of backup/syncing options, but some may be better suited depending on exactly what you're trying to do. Can you give a specific example of what you'd like to see/do with your media collection?

Hi Dave,

sorry this time it took me a little longer to reply to your last posting, but somehow my DSL-Modem had some problems and I couldn´t fix it until I got a proper Firmware. Anyway, I´m online again and I have to say -> You are a genius! It works just fine!!! In my opinion it is a little slow (who cares as long as it works?), but for future updates I don´t have to copy all the files so it won´t take that long I guess.
Of course you were right, I put the wrong IP adress in the "Hosts Allowed Access" field so that´s why it didn´t work on the first try! During the synchronisation of the pics the were some errors (lost connection to the NAS), but I guess this was tue to the fact that my DSL-Modem died several times and maybe that caused some troubles in the network.

I have two more questions, but there is no need to hurry for answering them:

1.) If I set the schedule for the synchronisation, is it somehow possible to make the PC startup automatically?
2.) I realized that my NAS has no static IP adress. This might lead to troubles becausethe NAS´s IP adress is named in the DeltaCopy Client. Is there a workaround?

Most computers support some sort of "wake" feature in the BIOS. Check there to see if your computer can be set power on via schedule.

The ReadyNAS can be configured to use a static IP (Frontview > Network > Interfaces). Additionally, many routers now support "DHCP Reservations" (also called static DHCP) where the same IP address can be reserved for a specific device. Check you router's manual to see if it supports it.

That's right... it is slow the first time, but subsequent backups are faster. Read this post for a little more info:

FWIW, here's an image of the setting in the BIOS for a auto-power on:

Obviously, your BIOS may or may not support this feature or it may be in a different location (your mileage may vary, objects in mirror are closer than they appear, etc.) but this should give you a general idea of what to look for.
